HR Generalist
SUMMARY: The HR Generalist supports the mission of our Community Action Agency by delivering responsive, people‑centered human resources services that strengthen our workforce and enhance our ability to serve the community. Reporting directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), this role provides administrative HR support across recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, payroll, and organizational development. General Administration
Follow and accurately interpret all Project NOW policies and procedures.
Maintain and update HR documents such as employee handbooks or company forms.
Assist with the performance evaluation process and ensure completion of all required documents.
Support employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and retention strategies.
Assist with planning and executing special events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, and holiday celebrations.
Support conflict resolution efforts and help foster a respectful, inclusive, and mission-aligned culture.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR files, records, and documentation.
Other duties as assigned.
Payroll Administration
Processes biweekly payroll.
Maintain employee payroll files, including salary data, deductions, garnishments, and insurance information.
Ensure timely and accurate payroll-related entries and updates to employee data.
Review time and attendance records for accuracy and compliance; ensure proper transfer of data to the payroll system.
Recruitment
Manage the recruiting/hiring process by posting requisitions and monitoring applicant flow.
Leads onboarding processes to ensure new employees feel welcomed, informed, and connected to the agency’s mission.
Initiate and process background screenings through the Paycor HRIS.
HRIS Administration
Serve as the primary report specialist for HR reporting.
Enter HRIS data such as new hires, pay changes, transfers, promotions, and terminations.
Maintain electronic employee files, ensuring all documents are current (i.e., licenses, insurance, training certificates); assist with annual audits as required.
Maintains confidentiality of protected information.
Benefit Administration
Work closely with the CHRO to administer employee benefit plans.
Assist with employee benefit enrollment, maintain records, and respond to benefit-related inquiries.
Ensure accurate entry and updating of all benefit plan codes and deductions in HRIS.
Reconcile and process monthly carrier invoices in a timely manner.
Leave Management
Provide administrative support to the CHRO in tracking and reporting of federal, state, and company leave programs (FMLA, Emergency Leave, Sick Leave, Paid Leave).
Training & Development
Coordinate employee training and development initiatives for staff and departments.
Research, develop, and recommend appropriate training programs.
Collaborate with departments to deliver training and gather feedback.
Identify development opportunities for employees across the agency.
Supervisory Oversight: This role has no supervisory responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic knowledge of current HR principles, laws, trends, processes, technology, and HR metrics.
Ability to safeguard and maintain confidentiality of personnel information.
Must be able to manage multiple priorities.
Sound judgment and commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Strong written, oral, and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex information for diverse audiences.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
Ability to work well under pressure with minimum supervision.
Ability to travel to agency worksites as needed.
Education and Experience
Associate's degree or higher in business or related field required.
Experience may substitute for education.
Prior office experience preferred.
