Job Description: Database Admin (DBA) - Data Translation SME
Onsite Location: Gaithersburg, MD
Position Type: Contract Position
Duration: Very short-term project (Maybe for a few days or a few weeks)
Roles & Responsibilities:
· Responsible for Database Administration and Data Translation tasks.
· Focuses on guiding legacy data extraction routines, protecting schema integrity during translation, and guiding the customer personnel through database restorations on the target architecture.
· Performs the installation, parameter configuration, instance setup, and baseline optimization of the target Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) database on the new Linux host.
· Responsible for script verification for pulling legacy library datasets cleanly from the existing Oracle database infrastructure.
· Responsible for the deployment of specialized utility toolsets to convert raw data from the historical ANSEL character set into clean, standardized Unicode formats, preventing record degradation.
· Responsible for restoring core application backup files on the destination server and securely import the newly converted Unicode database tables into the active MSSQL engine.
· Focuses on ensuring that data-staging strategies, firewall configurations, and traffic cutover plans conform perfectly to the customer's network defense parameters.
· Coordinates with the customer Library's internal network and security teams to establish secure file-staging protocols and SHA-256/MD5 checksum verification routines before they execute physical or network transfers of backup bundles across perimeters.
· Delivers precise technical guidance to customer’s network engineers regarding modifying Domain Name System (DNS) pointer records, verifying Time-to-Live (TTL) parameters, and altering routing tables to seamlessly transition live traffic to the new environment.
· Advises on the necessary configuration updates, endpoint mappings, and secure API handshakes within the Enterprise discovery layer to re-establish and verify end-to-end interface connectivity with the newly migrated server.
· Responsible for providing real-time, step-by-step guidance during application installation, verifying system software alignment, and guiding OS-level tuning within a highly secure environment.
· Responsible for Secure Deployment and Migration Tasks.
· Creates Security Architecture diagrams and provides Technical Solutions and document them.
· Verifies system software alignment, and guides/performs OS-level tuning within a highly secure environment.
· Provides support for the fresh installation of the Symphony application core binaries on the destination Linux server environment.
· Provides support for extracting, analyzing, and auditing application logs from the active legacy server to ensure the newly installed software build completely matches the existing production baseline.
· Analyzes the server's STIG-hardened Linux profile via remote-viewing software, isolate operating system or directory-level blocks, and advises on micro-targeted permission changes and security exceptions required for the Symphony application to run smoothly.
· Performs initial system verification routines, error-log inspections, and application smoke testing on the new server hardware to confirm stable post-migration operations.
· Develops and delivers comprehensive weekly written status updates detailing work completed, near-term priorities, potential infrastructure delays, and technical recommendations based on ongoing remote advisory findings.
· Translates the direct technical steps of the migration phases into clean, repeatable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and runbooks.
· Delivers these finalized manuals using customer-provided templates, completely avoiding unnecessary technical jargon, wordiness, or ambiguity to guarantee seamless operational continuity.
Important Note: Since the customer facility operates under strict zero-trust security guidelines, the customer's internal IT staff will retain sole administrative root access and perform all physical/direct environment manipulations.
