What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Equivalency Instructor position at Project Learn of Summit County?
PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION
Teach instructional groups and support students in their efforts to accomplish their educational goals. Review student progress using student portfolios and assessments. Work with Project Learn staff to support and retain students. Comply with all Project Learn of Summit County and Ohio Department of Higher Education Aspire policies, procedures, and grant requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Learner Progress, Advancement, and Retention
- Teach small group classes in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, digital literacy, career readiness, life skills, and other appropriate subjects
- Utilize various instructional strategies to engage learners
- Utilize the agency curriculum and lesson plans in accordance with the Ohio Department of Higher Education lesson plan requirements
- Utilize the LACES database for student engagement
- Maintain accurate attendance records for each class
- Manage student digital portfolios and ongoing assessments for each student in the class, which includes goal setting, learner progress, and advancement
- Utilize assigned instructional volunteers in the classes
- Provide statistics for research and evaluation
Student Support Services and Retention Services
- Work with the Assessment and Retention Specialist and Student Engagement Coordinator to monitor student progress and follow up with students who have left the program
- Work with the Workforce Development Coordinator to assist students with college and career goals
- Participate with other instructors and Project Learn staff to strengthen curriculum and student achievement documentation
Fund Development
- Participate in fund development activities as assigned by the Executive Director
Special Projects
- Complete special projects as assigned by the Chief Learning Officer and Executive Director
Professional Development
- Complete required professional development from the Ohio Department of Higher Education
- Attend local, state, and/or national conferences related to adult literacy, assessment, cultural awareness and sensitivity, and/or social services administration
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree and related experience in adult learning and literacy; teaching and curriculum development; training and professional development; and/or social service experience.

- morning and evening positions available
- report to the Director of Programming & Strategy
- location: various instructional site locations throughout Summit County
- some local and overnight travel as needed
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $22.50 - $24.50 per hour
