Pay Range: $24.40/hr

This position is located at the Honickman Learning Center,1936 N Judson St, Philadelphia, PA 19121.
Hours will be Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm

Job Summary: Leads a K-8 classroom as a Lead Teacher during summer camp. Lead Teacher responsibilities include planning and implementing lessons that include project-based learning for academic and life skills enrichment in a state-of-the-art, high-quality center and supervision of children during summer camp trips.

Summer camp schedule is full-time, Monday - Friday 8am-4pm, for six weeks throughout July and August. Orientation is scheduled for June.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Create and nurture a welcoming, supportive and cooperative relationship with children, parents and staff
  2. Prepare, submit and facilitate engaging lesson and activity plans designed to provide enrichment, increase literacy, STEM and life skills
  3. Supervise students on field trips
  4. Maintain accurate daily classroom attendance and maintain an orderly classroom
  5. Collaborate with Program Manager, the K-8 staff to ensure that students' individualized needs are appropriately addressed
  6. Participate in required professional development programs and staff meetings

Education and Experience Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Experience:

  • High school diploma with at least two years of verified childcare experience (can include volunteering and tutoring)
  • Awareness of developmental needs of elementary school students
  • Good communication skills

Preferred Experience:

  • College credits or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Services or other related fields with at least 1 year of child care experience
  • Experience planning lessons and activities for elementary aged students
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record

Core Skills:

  • Ability to prioritize tasks well
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents. Stays calm under pressure.

Requirements for Hire:

  • Clearances: FBI Criminal History, PA State Police Criminal History, PA Child Abuse, National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR) Verification. Out-of-State clearances required for applicants who resided outside of Pennsylvania in the last five (5) years
  • Completed Childcare Verification Form to verify prior childcare experience
  • Proof of Education (diploma and/or transcripts)
  • Physical health assessment with negative TB test

These requirements are mandated by the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) before working with children and do not include all Project HOME requirements.

Physical requirements:

Active work involved in the care of children. includes walking, climbing stairs, kneeling, and driving (if applicable). Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must be able to walk short distances (1 mile or less).
