High School Culinary Arts Instructor

Job Summary:

The Culinary Instructor, Teen Program provides instruction in basic culinary skills, emphasizing safety and healthy cooking, to high school students enrolled in the Teen and College Access after-school program. This position is only funded for the school year and follows the School District of Philadelphia schedule. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plans, documents, and implements lessons designed to provide basic culinary instruction for students enrolled in the Project HOME Teen Program.

• Lessons are conducted three (3) days a week between Tuesday and Friday from 4 - 6 pm.

• Instructor is paid for two (2) hours of teaching, one (1) hour of set up (3 - 4 pm), and one (1) hour of lesson planning each day they teach. Teacher is also paid for one (1) hour of grocery shopping.

• Sets up kitchen in advance of each lesson; responsibly uses kitchen while in class; and cleans kitchen after class.

• Grocery shops for the entire week of culinary lessons. Documents all purchases and acquires approval from Teen and College Access Program Manager.

• Coordinates industry tours and student showcases four times a year.

• Creates student assessment tool.

• Collects and reports accurate student attendance, engagement, and assessment data.

• Completes professional development as determined by grant funders, internal requirements, and Manager assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate's degree, or equivalent experience (2 years). Proof of Education (diploma or transcript) required

• Minimum 1-year professional experience working in the culinary field

• Minimum 1-year teaching and lesson planning experience

• Minimum 3 years validated Childcare Experience

• FBI, Criminal History, Child Abuse and National Sex Offender Registry clearance required

• Health Assessment with negative TB test required

• ServSafe Manager certification

Physical requirements:

Ability to withstand prolonged periods of standing. Ability to Move around a kitchen. Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
