Phlebotomy Instructor (CPT-I) — Evenings & Weekends (1099)Company: Project Heartbeat
Location: On-site at 333 Hegenberger Rd, Suite 855, Oakland, CA 94621
Employment type: 1099 independent contractor (non-benefited)
Compensation: $25-32/hour
Schedule: Part-time, primarily evenings & weekends. 5-week course, 16 hours/week (total 80 hours: 40 didactic 40 clinical). Courses repeat on a rotating basis (approximately every two months).

What you’ll do
- Teach didactic and lab for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT-I) course (venipuncture, capillary puncture, order of draw, specimen handling, infection control/OSHA).
- Supervise in-class clinical phlebotomy hours (no externship supervision).
- Evaluate competencies; complete skills checklists, remediation, attendance, and grades.
- Maintain a safe, well-stocked lab (sharps/biohazard compliance).
Minimum requirements
- 2 years recent phlebotomy experience.
- Active California CPT-I certification (good standing).
- High school diploma or equivalent (college preferred).
- AHA BLS current card.
- Background check and required immunizations.
- Reliable evening/weekend availability; on-site in Oakland.
Preferred
- Prior teaching/precepting or skills-checkoff experience.
- Familiarity with CLSI standards, OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens, infection control, and specimen workflow.
- Comfortable with basic classroom tech (slides/LMS/attendance tools).
Work setting
- Small-group, hands-on lab environment.
- Max 10:1 student-to-instructor ratio.
- No travel; Oakland campus only.

- 5 weeks per cohort, 16 hrs/week (total 80 hours).

- Target start: Q1 2026.
