What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Engineer position at Project Fortress?
Project Fortress is building the next generation legal operating system on Salesforce. Our platform combines matter management, workflow automation, AI, document management, collaboration, and analytics into a unified environment used by law firms, legal departments, government agencies, and other professional service organizations.
We are looking for a Legal Engineer who can bridge the gap between legal practice, AI, product strategy, and technical implementation. This is not a traditional legal operations role, nor is it a traditional software engineering role. We are looking for someone who understands how legal work gets done and can translate that understanding into scalable workflows, products, and AI-powered solutions.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys sitting at the intersection of law, technology, product design, and business strategy.
The Legal Engineer will work directly with attorneys, legal professionals, customers, product leaders, and developers to design and implement solutions that transform complex legal processes into scalable software workflows.
You will help identify operational inefficiencies, architect solutions, design AI workflows, configure systems, write requirements, test functionality, and guide new capabilities from concept to production.
Success in this role means turning ideas into working products that deliver measurable value for customers.
• Transform customer workflow requirements into scalable platform features and solutions
• Design AI-enabled workflows that meaningfully improve productivity and work quality
• Serve as a trusted advisor to customers regarding legal operations, process improvement, and technology adoption
• Work effectively across legal, product, engineering, and business teams
• Help accelerate product development by translating business requirements into actionable technical specifications
• Drive customer adoption through practical, business-focused solutions
• Identify opportunities to expand platform capabilities and improve user experience
• Analyze legal and professional services workflows and identify opportunities for automation, AI integration, and process improvement
• Gather requirements from customers, attorneys, and stakeholders and translate them into detailed product specifications
• Design and configure workflows, automations, reporting, permissions, data models, and user experiences within the Project Fortress platform
• Partner with engineering teams to deliver new features and enhancements
• Design and test AI agents, prompts, workflows, and integrations that support legal and professional services use cases
• Develop process maps, solution architectures, user stories, acceptance criteria, and implementation plans
• Conduct product demonstrations, solution workshops, and customer discovery sessions
• Assist with customer implementations, onboarding, and adoption initiatives
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities to incorporate them into customer solutions
• Collaborate with leadership on product strategy, roadmap development, and platform architecture
• Support quality assurance, user acceptance testing, and release validation activities
• Serve as a bridge between legal subject matter experts and technical teams
• Experience practicing law, supporting legal operations, legal technology, consulting, or professional services workflows
• Strong understanding of legal processes, document workflows, matter management, contract management, litigation support, or transactional practice
• Demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence, workflow automation, and technology-enabled service delivery
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment
• Business-minded approach to technology and product development
• Salesforce experience, including administration, configuration, platform architecture, Flow, reporting, security, or related platform capabilities
• Experience with Agentforce, AI agents, prompt engineering, workflow automation, or enterprise AI implementations
• Experience working with legal technology platforms such as iManage, NetDocuments, Relativity, Litera, DocuSign, Contract Lifecycle Management systems, or practice management software
• Experience with software implementation, product management, solution architecture, or consulting
• Familiarity with APIs, integrations, data architecture, DevOps concepts, or software development lifecycles
• Juris Doctor (JD), legal operations certification, Salesforce certification, or equivalent professional experience
This is an opportunity to help define an entirely new category at the intersection of legal services, AI, and enterprise software. You will work directly with law firms, Fortune 500 legal departments, government agencies, and some of the most innovative organizations in the legal industry while helping shape the future of how professional work gets done.
