Position Overview: The Director of Biomedical Technology leads the testing, repair, inventory management, and deployment of biomedical equipment and durable medical equipment (DME) for all shipments of C.U.R.E. Cargo from Project C.U.R.E.’s national distribution warehouses. The Director of Biomedical Technology is responsible to establish a program to recruit, train and supervise volunteers to implement real-time inventory tracking, testing and repair protocols and shipping preparation to ensure that the donated equipment is working and optimized for use in the recipient hospitals and clinics. The ideal candidate is passionate about expanding access to global healthcare, effective in managing teams, and skilled at coordinating technical operations across multiple locations.


Responsibilities: The Director of Biomedical Technology is responsible to:


  • Ensure that Project C.U.R.E. has sufficient inventories of biomedical and durable medical equipment to meet the requirements for delivery of C.U.R.E. Cargo container projects.
  • Foster relationships with biomedical companies and medical organizations to receive information, procure resources and strengthen volunteer recruitment to expand equipment testing and repair capacity.
  • Develop the training materials and communication channels to instruct volunteers, share best practices, answer questions and align priorities among staff, volunteers and partners.
  • Create and maintain uniform testing and repair standards to ensure that all equipment is working and has necessary ancillaries for the recipient partner to effectively install and utilize the donations.
  • Provide leadership and management of volunteers through regular meetings, consistent communication, training and coaching to ensure quality control standards are universally met in all Project C.U.R.E. locations.
  • Develop and manage accurate inventory systems that reflect the number, location and condition of equipment and parts in all warehouses.
  • Oversee the procurement, receipt and utilization of parts and ancillaries necessary to test and repair equipment.
  • Generate reports on biomedical and DME inventory from receipt to shipment across all warehouses.
  • Assist in resolving biomedical issues that arise with Project C.U.R.E. donations after delivery.


Qualifications: The Operations Director must demonstrate alignment with Project C.U.R.E.’s mission and be passionate about addressing health care inequalities in the developing world in a sustainable manner. The ideal candidate for the position:


  • Is qualified: Holds a bachelor’s degree and has at least three to five years of biomedical engineering or repair experience.
  • Is a teacher: Conducts group trainings, delivers remote instruction and provides in-person guidance for staff and volunteers to meet the equipment needs of the organization.

  • Is teachable: Has an attitude of openness, is eager to learn new things, and does not get stuck in a repetitive pattern of doing the same things the same way for too long. Can quickly comprehend complex concepts and will accept instruction.
  • Is “bottom line” oriented: Can secure in-kind donations, negotiate discounts and benefits with vendors and venues, and can meet budget and resource challenges.
  • Is a good person: Is a recognized leader that accepts feedback and continually looks for ways to develop themselves, and who maintains the highest ethical standards and values to represent Project C.U.R.E. well.
  • Works well with others: The successful candidate possesses excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills; the ability to work effectively with donors, volunteers, staff and interns; displays mature judgment and high emotional intelligence.
  • Is an effective communicator: Can demonstrate effective communication skills including writing, interpersonal communication and public speaking. Understands that effective communication begins with listening.
  • Is goal oriented: Manages to metrics, OKR’s and Key Performance Indicators, including meeting or exceeding goals/objectives, monitoring performance and reporting results; is a “self-starter” who is internally motivated and does not require significant supervision.
  • Is motivated: Has an obvious passion and enthusiasm for saving lives and strengthening health care systems in the developing world with an attitude of never giving up or accepting “no” for an answer.
