PROJECT BLACKBIRD is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to breaking the stigma around mental health in schools, campuses, and communities. Through impactful storytelling, we combine the voices of celebrated figures from entertainment, the NFL, and NBA with accessible mental health resources to inspire meaningful action. Central to our programs is a powerful short film screening followed by open, honest panel discussions addressing mental health challenges. Additionally, we provide every participating student with one year of free therapy and connections to both local and national resources. With a focus on reaching young people where they are, we lead cultural conversations that transform shame into empowerment and spark healing.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Washington, DC, for a Board Member at PROJECT BLACKBIRD INC. The Board Member will collaborate with other members to provide strategic guidance, oversee organizational performance, and ensure alignment with the nonprofit’s mission and values. Responsibilities include attending board and committee meetings, providing governance and financial oversight, supporting leadership in fundraising efforts, and serving as an ambassador for the organization. The Board Member will contribute to developing partnerships and driving programmatic growth while maintaining accountability to the organization’s goals.
Qualifications
- Leadership and governance experience, with a strong ability to provide strategic direction and oversight
- Relationship-building skills to create and maintain partnerships with stakeholders, donors, and community leaders
- Expertise in nonprofit management, fundraising strategies, and financial stewardship
- Strong communication and advocacy skills, including public speaking and organizational representation
- Passion for mental health advocacy and alignment with PROJECT BLACKBIRD’s mission
- Ability to commit time for board meetings, organizational planning, and event participation
- Experience in education, mental health, or cultural programming is a plus
