Position Title: Telecom Designer
Duration: 6-Months C2H
Location: Gigafactory - 1 Tesla Road Austin, TX 78725
Schedule: 5 Days/Week Onsite - 9:00am – 5:00pm
Why This Role Is Open:
Tesla is expanding its internal telecom design team to support increasing project demand. Historically, this work was outsourced to consulting firms, but the team is now bringing all design, modeling, and documentation in-house to improve efficiency and execution speed. This hire will support the growing workload and help scale the team from 2 to 3 designers.
Mission:
Build and scale Tesla’s in-house telecom design capabilities by delivering high-quality infrastructure designs across telecom, network, security, and AV systems. This role will play a key part in reducing reliance on external consultants while supporting rapid project execution across Tesla facilities.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Act as a Telecom/RCDD Designer supporting infrastructure design projects
- Spend ~50% of time in cross-functional meetings (engineering, construction, etc.)
- Spend ~50% executing designs and producing documentation
- Create and review:
- Site plans, floor plans, and telecom layouts
- Equipment rack/cabinet elevations
- Backbone schematics and infrastructure details
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, electrical, mechanical, etc.)
- Support design, modeling, and sheet stamping processes internally
- Work closely with Designers, BIM Modelers, and Engineers
Must-Have Requirements:
- 2–3 years of experience in telecom design (no green candidates)
- Hands-on experience designing:
- Telecommunication systems
- Network infrastructure
- Security systems
- AV systems
- Strong understanding of ISP (Inside Plant) design
- Prior experience in a similar telecom/RCDD design role
Plusses:
- RCDD certification (highly preferred)
- Experience with AutoDesk CAD
- OSP (Outside Plant) experience
Salary : $75 - $80
