About the Role:

The PET/CT Technologist plays a critical role in the diagnostic imaging process by performing positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) scans to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating various medical conditions. This position requires the technologist to operate advanced imaging equipment with precision and ensure high-quality images are produced for accurate interpretation. The technologist is responsible for preparing patients for procedures, explaining the process, and ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the imaging session. Additionally, the role involves adhering to strict radiation safety protocols and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards to protect patients, staff, and the environment. Ultimately, the PET/CT Technologist contributes to improved patient outcomes by providing essential diagnostic information that guides clinical decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT Registered) with a specialization in Nuclear Medicine or PET/CT.
  • Valid state licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the United States.
  • Demonstrated experience operating PET and CT imaging equipment in a clinical setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of radiation safety principles and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathology relevant to nuclear medicine imaging.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional certification in PET or CT imaging modalities.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment or hospital setting.
  • Familiarity with advanced imaging software and image processing techniques.
  • Completion of continuing education courses related to nuclear medicine and radiologic technology.
  • Excellent communication skills for patient interaction and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate PET and CT scanners to acquire diagnostic images according to established protocols.
  • Prepare and position patients appropriately for imaging procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety.
  • Administer radiopharmaceuticals and monitor patients for any adverse reactions during PET imaging.
  • Maintain and calibrate imaging equipment to ensure optimal performance and image quality.
  • Adhere to radiation safety guidelines and regulatory requirements to minimize exposure risks.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to review imaging results and provide technical expertise.
  • Document procedures accurately and maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA and institutional policies.
  • Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with advances in nuclear medicine and radiologic technology.
