Progressive Equestrian Therapeutic Services (PETS) is a 100% volunteer-run, non-profit equestrian therapeutic program based in Bowie, MD. Serving disabled children and adults of Prince George’s County, Maryland since 1982, PETS offers skill-based horseback riding and horsemanship lessons at no cost. Recognized as a PATH International Premier Accredited Center, PETS provides individualized instruction to riders with physical, emotional, and educational disabilities.
This is a volunteer role at PETS located in Bowie, MD. Volunteers will be involved in assisting with horseback riding sessions, providing emotional support to riders, and helping with the daily operation of the equestrian therapeutic program.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in therapeutic settings
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic knowledge of horsemanship or willingness to learn
- Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors
- Patience and empathy for individuals facing challenges
- Training in CPR and First Aid is a plus
- Availability to commit to a regular volunteer schedule
