General Statement of Position Responsibilities

Under general supervision, this non-exempt position is responsible for providing direct care and support to individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. Reports to the Clinical Director.

Essential Job Functions

Provide individualized crisis intervention plans, providing emotional and behavioral support, coordinating with clinical staff, and ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for clients; assist in crisis de-escalation and stabilization through evidence-based interventions; and implement treatment plans under the guidance of clinical staff.

Facilitate individual and group support sessions focused on coping skills, stress management, and emotional regulation; coordinate with case managers, therapists, psychiatrists, and other healthcare providers to support clients’ treatment goals; and assist in accessing community resources, including housing, employment, and continued mental health treatment.

Maintain detailed documentation of client interactions, progress notes, and incident reports in accordance with agency policies and state and federal regulations; ensure compliance with state regulations and agency policies related to crisis stabilization and mental health care; and provide education and support to family members and caregivers when appropriate ensuring client confidentiality.

Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all ethical and legal guidelines and participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and effectiveness.

Responsible for timely completion and submission of all required clinical documentation within 24 hours of initiating services.

Provide supervision to Qualified Mental Health Professionals and teams

Must provide a work schedule in advance and consistently adhere to assigned hours

Participation in all mandatory staff meetings and completion of all required trainings associated with the position is required. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge

Crisis Stabilization Systems – Knowledge of and awareness of residential and community-based crisis stabilization programs including the roles in diverting individuals from hospitalizations.

Emergency & Non-Emergency Response Options – Knowledge and understanding of how and when to engage law enforcement, mobile crisis teams, psychiatric emergency services, and crisis hotlines.

Community Resources & Continuum of Care – Knowledge and understanding between crisis intervention, outpatient services, case management, housing support and peer recovery programs.

De-escalation & Crisis Intervention Strategies – Applying trauma-informed, person-centered approaches to stabilize individuals while ensuring safety for all parties involved.

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) – Knowledge of patient rights, privacy rules, compliance requirements, and impact on healthcare operations, particularly in protecting protected health information (PHI).

Collaboration & Partnership Building – Experience working with public agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community stakeholders to enhance service coordination. Ability to work effectively with families from diverse backgrounds ensuring inclusive and equitable service delivery.

Judgment/Decision Making – Evaluates situations and then exercises appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and resolving matters. Must have the ability to problem solve and resolve conflict with the least amount of resistance.

Interpersonal Relationships – Develops and maintains cooperative and courteous relationships with employees and clients. Effectively responds to routine inquiries and disputes.

Required Abilities

Communication – Excellent ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization. Excellent ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing. Ability to handle a variety of interpersonal issues with tact and diplomacy and in a confidential manner.

Time Management – Ability to plan and organize daily work routine. Establish priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology to meet strict deadlines.

Conflict Resolution - Ability to address and resolve quality-related concerns in a professional manner and with tact.

Coordination of Work – Ability to establish and implement effective programs and procedures. Ability to plan and organize daily work routine. Establishes priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology. Attends and maintains a calendar for meetings, deadlines and events.

Compliance & Ethical Integrity – Ability to commit to upholding ethical standards and regulatory requirements in all quality assurance activities. Ability to establish and maintain the highest standards of ethical integrity in all aspects of the program.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a human services field (Social Work, Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, Family & Child Development, Counseling, Gerontology, or Guidance & Counseling);

and at least 1 year of related human services experience. Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a QMHP-A, QMHP-C, or QMHP-E.

Must have current TB screening within the last thirty (30) days.

Additional Requirements

****MUST HAVE MOBILE CRISIS TRAINING***

· An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and sex offender registry check.

· A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

· Individuals in this position cannot be listed as having a founded child abuse or neglect complaint.

· As a condition of employment must successfully pass and maintain an Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Exclusion List screening.

· Must be available at least one full weekend a month

Physical Requirements

Requires the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work.

Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).

Sensory Requirements

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals.

Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Exposures

Essential functions are regularly performed with some exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Pay: $40.00 per hour
