Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Kaukauna, WI, for an Industrial Blaster / Abrasive Blasting Technician.
The Industrial Blaster is responsible for preparing steel components, fabricated assemblies, and industrial parts for coating by using abrasive blasting equipment to achieve the required surface cleanliness and profile. This role is a critical part of the coating process. Proper blasting directly affects coating adhesion, finish quality, and long-term performance.
The ideal candidate understands industrial work, pays attention to detail, follows safety procedures, and can work effectively in a production environment where quality and schedule both matter.
Responsibilities
- Operate abrasive blasting equipment to prepare steel and fabricated components for coating
- Blast parts to required surface preparation standards, such as commercial blast or near-white blast, depending on job requirements
- Create the proper surface profile for coating adhesion
- Inspect blasted surfaces for cleanliness, missed areas, contamination, or defects before coating
- Mask or protect areas that should not be blasted when required
- Load, unload, move, and stage parts safely using approved handling procedures
- Follow job travelers, coating specifications, work instructions, and quality requirements
- Maintain blasting equipment, hoses, nozzles, PPE, and related tools
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe
- Communicate issues with material condition, surface defects, equipment, or schedule to supervisors
- Follow all company safety procedures, including proper use of supplied-air hoods, respirators, hearing protection, and other PPE
Qualifications
- Experience with abrasive blasting, sandblasting, or industrial surface preparation preferred
- Familiarity with steel fabrication, industrial coatings, manufacturing, or heavy equipment environments is a plus
- Ability to recognize proper surface cleanliness and blast profile requirements
- Understanding of basic coating preparation standards is preferred, including SSPC/NACE/AMPP surface prep standards
- Ability to operate blasting equipment safely and effectively
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to follow written work instructions, job specifications, and safety procedures
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, wear blasting PPE, lift materials as needed, and perform repetitive tasks
- Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment
- Previous manufacturing, fabrication, blasting, painting, or coatings experience is an advantage
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
