Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager – Receivables and Settlements to manage the overall PAL accounts receivable process and oversee settlement operations for independent owner-operators and subhaulers. This role is critical to ensuring timely customer collections, accurate settlement payments, and smooth coordination between operations and finance. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable
- Oversee the end-to-end AR process and policies for PAL and its operating companies, ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices
- Identify and implement improvements in accuracy, efficiency and automation for AR activities in coordination with the accounting team
- Establish and enforce credit and collections policies, managing risk and resolving payment disputes in partnership with sales, operations, and other stakeholders
- Prepare and analyze AR aging reports for management, track key metrics, and implement strategies to reduce Days Sales Outstanding (DSO)
- Oversee the settlements process and policies for PAL and its operating companies, including load payments, deductions (e.g. fuel, escrow), and reimbursements
- Ensure settlements align with rate confirmations, accessorial charges and agreements
- Identify and implement improvements in accuracy, efficiency and automation
- Reconcile settlements to the Transportation Management System (Magnus) and accounting system (Acumatica)
- Coordinate cross-functionally to resolve payment issues with independent contractors
- Supervise and develop team members
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including account reconciliations, accruals, and audit schedules
- Document and update SOPs to reflect best practices and policy compliance
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls over receivables and settlement processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role; transportation or logistics industry experience preferred
- Solid understanding of AR practices, transportation billing, and driver settlement processes
- Demonstrated success leading accounting process improvement or automation initiatives
- Advanced Excel and analytical skills; experience with KPIs and reporting tools is a plus
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies preferred
- Proficient in accounting software and ERP systems (Acumatica preferred)
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership abilities
