Plant Controller

A leading manufacturing organization based in Houston, Texas, is seeking an experienced Plant Controller to oversee accounting operations for their manufacturing facility.

This role is responsible for managing all plant-level accounting activities, ensuring financial accuracy, supporting operational decision-making, and maintaining strong internal controls within an ERP-driven environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership capabilities, manufacturing accounting expertise, and the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all month-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting for the manufacturing plant
• Oversee plant accounting operations, including production costs, overhead allocations, and departmental expenses
• Develop, enhance, and standardize Accounts Payable processes across the group of companies to improve efficiency and control
• Analyze and interpret manufacturing cost variances, identifying key drivers and providing actionable insights to operations
• Partner with the Group Cost Accountant to ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of inventory valuation and month-end balances
• Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and monthly working papers in accordance with internal and external requirements
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures within a manufacturing environment
• Train, mentor, and support accounting staff to ensure consistency in processes and adherence to best practices
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, supply chain, and finance leadership to support business performance

Qualifications & Experience

• CPA or CMA designation required, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing or standard costing environment Must have
• Strong hands-on experience with ERP systems such as QuickBooks, Epicor, or similar platforms
• Proven leadership experience, including mentoring or supervising accounting staff
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a solid understanding of cost accounting principles
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (financial modeling, analysis, reporting)
• Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational and prioritization skills
• Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and deliver accurate financial results
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across all levels of the organization
• High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential financial information
