Plant Controller
A leading manufacturing organization based in Houston, Texas, is seeking an experienced Plant Controller to oversee accounting operations for their manufacturing facility.
This role is responsible for managing all plant-level accounting activities, ensuring financial accuracy, supporting operational decision-making, and maintaining strong internal controls within an ERP-driven environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership capabilities, manufacturing accounting expertise, and the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all month-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting for the manufacturing plant
- Oversee plant accounting operations, including production costs, overhead allocations, and departmental expenses
- Develop, enhance, and standardize Accounts Payable processes across the group of companies to improve efficiency and control
- Analyze and interpret manufacturing cost variances, identifying key drivers and providing actionable insights to operations
- Partner with the Group Cost Accountant to ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of inventory valuation and month-end balances
- Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and monthly working papers in accordance with internal and external requirements
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures within a manufacturing environment
- Train, mentor, and support accounting staff to ensure consistency in processes and adherence to best practices
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, supply chain, and finance leadership to support business performance
Qualifications & Experience
- CPA or CMA designation required, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing or standard costing environment Must have
- Strong hands-on experience with ERP systems such as QuickBooks, Epicor, or similar platforms
- Proven leadership experience, including mentoring or supervising accounting staff
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a solid understanding of cost accounting principles
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (financial modeling, analysis, reporting)
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and deliver accurate financial results
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across all levels of the organization
- High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential financial information
