Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing exceptional patient care by assisting optometrists with various clinical tasks and ensuring a smooth workflow within the practice. Your responsibilities will include patient intake, conducting preliminary tests, and maintaining accurate medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
Duties
- Perform patient intake procedures, including gathering medical history and vital signs
- Assist optometrists during examinations by preparing patients and conducting preliminary tests
- Utilize aseptic techniques to ensure a safe and clean environment for patient care
- Maintain and manage medical records using EMR systems such as Epic
- Provide education to patients regarding eye health, procedures, and eyewear options
- Support front desk operations, including scheduling appointments and managing patient flow
- Handle retail sales of eyewear and optical products while applying retail math principles
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient care
- Stay updated on medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, and physiology relevant to optometry
Experience
Ideal candidates will possess the following skills and experience:
- Previous experience in a medical office setting or clinic environment
- Familiarity with ophthalmology practices and optical experience is highly desirable
- Knowledge of medical coding and billing processes is a plus
- Experience working with pediatric patients is beneficial but not required
- Strong communication skills with an emphasis on patient care and customer service
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment while managing multiple tasks
