Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and energetic Night Time School Janitor to join our team for Elk Rapids Public Schools. This vital role ensures that school facilities are kept clean, safe, and well-maintained during evening hours. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining a pristine environment for students and staff alike. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the safety and cleanliness of educational facilities during evening hours 2:30pm-11:00pm.
Duties
- Perform thorough cleaning of classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, and common areas using appropriate cleaning equipment and supplies
- Handle chemical agents safely, following all chemical handling safety procedures to ensure a secure environment
- Operate floor buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, and other custodial equipment to maintain high standards of floor care and sanitation
- Conduct lifting tasks safely when moving furniture, supplies, or cleaning materials as needed
- Follow established safety protocols during all custodial activities to prevent accidents or injuries
- Restock supplies such as paper towels, soap dispensers, and cleaning products to ensure readiness for the next school day
Experience
- Prior janitorial or custodial experience in commercial or industrial settings preferred
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques including floor buffing, sanitation practices, and industrial cleaning methods
- Experience handling chemical agents safely and adhering to safety protocols in a custodial environment
- Familiarity with cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, and pressure washers is highly desirable
- Strong manual handling skills with an emphasis on safe lifting practices and heavy lifting procedures
- Customer service skills are a plus for interacting professionally with staff or visitors when necessary
- Previous experience in facilities maintenance or porter roles will be advantageous for this position
