Position Summary
Profab Electronics is seeking a highly skilled and detail‑oriented Senior Process / Manufacturing Engineer to support PCB fabrication, PCBA assembly, test development, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires extensive hands‑on experience in CAD/CAM analysis, SMT programming, stencil and panel design, PCB troubleshooting, and cross‑functional engineering support.
Key Responsibilities
PCB Design Review & CAD/CAM Engineering
- Review Gerber files and CAD/CAM outputs to identify and resolve design issues before fabrication.
- Develop efficient multi‑up PCB panels and array designs for SMT assembly, depaneling, and test fixtures.
- Optimize material utilization to reduce laminate waste and minimize fabrication costs.
- Support DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFT (Design for Test) initiatives.
SMT, PTH & Manufacturing Process Engineering
- Program and optimize SMT pick‑and‑place, stencil creation, and PTH equipment for high‑reliability builds.
- Engineer stencil aperture geometries using area‑ratio and aspect‑ratio principles to improve paste transfer and reduce defects.
- Design custom wave‑solder pallets, SMT carriers, and press‑fit fixtures to enhance efficiency and throughput.
- Drive improvements in yield, repeatability, and overall manufacturing performance.
Hardware Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis
- Diagnose PCB and PCBA failures such as bridging, tombstoning, voiding, opens, and intermittent faults.
- Perform structured root‑cause analysis using IPC standards and proper documentation practices.
- Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to resolve PCB design corrections and improvements perform.
Prototype Build Support & PCB Rework
- Ensure high‑precision SMT soldering and rework on fine‑pitch and micro‑package components.
- Modify and repair prototype boards during validation and bring‑up stages.
- Support engineering evaluations, functional testing, and early‑stage verification.
Quality Engineering & Continuous Improvement
- Document test results, failure analyses, corrective actions, and process updates.
- Support end‑to‑end process optimization across fabrication and assembly operations.
Supplier & Customer Communication
- Evaluate global PCB fabrication suppliers and match capabilities to design requirements.
- Validate PCB fabrication quotes and cost structures for accuracy.
- Communicate technical issues clearly and professionally with customers and supply‑chain partners.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder).
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field
- (or equivalent 15 years' experience in PCB manufacturing).
- Knowledge of PCB design, PCBA assembly processes, and basic CAD/CAM tools.
- Ability to read schematics, PCB layouts, and manufacturing documentation.
- Hands‑on experience with SMT soldering, rework, or prototype board handling.
- Familiarity with PCB Manufacturing Process.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
