Join Us

At Product Genius, we don’t tell people what to do—we give them the strategic information to make great decisions on their own. We are generous with one another and committed to creating a collaborative, autonomous environment.

We are a seed-stage startup with a proven product, customers, and leap-frog real-time learning AI technology ($35M DARPA R&D, patented). We tackle challenging problems, building new systems from scratch and scaling our architecture. Join us and grow with our company.

Our Team

This is an opportunity to join a high-growth, seed-stage AI startup founded by experts in the field (Ben Vigoda, Steve Papa), with patented, leap-frog real-time learning AI technology. You'll work closely with exceptional AI researchers and software engineers, with the autonomy to make high-impact, strategic decisions that shape our core architecture.

Your Role

As a Backend Engineer, you will:

  • Collaborate to prioritize, prototype, and ship new features that directly impact our product and customer outcomes.
  • Contribute directly to the realtime learning engine at the core of our business.
  • Work on the APIs and data pipelines that link live user behavior to our self-learning systems.
  • Communicate and explain technical concepts, decisions, and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Champion practices that safely accelerate the team, including enhanced AI coding, streamlined CI/CD, and improved QA.
  • Own what you ship, digging into logs and traces, identifying root causes, and improve our testing apparatus to minimize issues.
  • Have autonomy. At Product Genius, we don't hand down tasks—we share contex. You’ll be trusted with the freedom to make decisions that shape the product and platform.

Requirements

  • Final leveling determined during interview based on scope, impact, and experience. We’re committed to transparency and finding a mutual fit.
  • 5 years of experience building and maintaining production applications.
  • Familiarity with building agentic systems at scale.
  • AI/web application expertise - APIs, databases, asynchronous processing, testing, git, CI/CD, and performance optimization.
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages (commonly Python, SQL, TypeScript, and React).
  • Ability to quickly absorb and work within complex codebases, including managing multiple parallel Claude code instances.
  • Collaborative at the abstract level, self-sufficient at the code level.
  • Strong math or analytical background. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

Desired Qualifications

  • You like testing new tools and frameworks—you’re the one who spins up a new prototype for fun.
  • You've run an LLM on your local machine just to see what’s possible.
  • Exposure to containerization and orchestration tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, GCP).
  • Experience with ClickHouse queries and optimization.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary plus stock options.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401k with matching contributions.
  • Work-at-home office reimbursement benefit.
  • Generous paid time off.
