Produce Experience is looking for a highly motivated Category Leader (Business Developer) to manage and grow one or more fresh produce categories.
This strategic role combines purchasing, sales, and business development responsibilities. The ideal candidate will own the commercial performance of assigned categories, build strong relationships with suppliers and customers, develop pricing strategies, optimize inventory, and drive profitable growth.
Responsibilities
- Manage purchasing and sales activities for assigned product categories.
- Negotiate with domestic and international suppliers.
- Develop and maintain customer relationships while identifying new business opportunities.
- Analyze market trends, pricing, supply, and demand.
- Develop pricing strategies to maximize profitability.
- Monitor inventory levels, turnover, and gross margin.
- Collaborate with Operations, Warehouse, Logistics, Food Safety, and Finance to ensure excellent service and product availability.
- Achieve sales, profitability, and category performance objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, International Business, Industrial Engineering, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing, sales, category management, or commercial operations.
- Experience negotiating with suppliers and customers.
- Fresh produce or food distribution experience is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Advanced Excel skills and ERP experience (Produce Pro is a plus).
What we offer
- Hybrid work model.
- Base Salary: $80,000–$100,000 per year, depending on experience, plus annual performance-based commission.
