PURPOSE OF POSITION: To use MIG, TIG and Robotic skill to manufacture parts and assemblies as required, meeting defined specifications and production schedules. Produce quality parts & assemblies from jigs & fixtures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are normal for this position.

These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Welder in Training Has less than 1 year or no paid welding experience No Welding Technical Diploma or AWS SENSE Certificate Did not pass PMI skills test relevant to the position during interview Level I Has 1 year/2,000 hours paid welding experience OR Welding Technical Diploma or AWS SENSE Certificate Must be able to pass at least 1 PMI Workmanship Test relevant to the position GMAW-Pulse Aluminum GMAW-Short Circuit Mild Steel GMAW-Spray Transfer Mild Steel GTAW-Stainless Steel Build welded assemblies to print and established production and quality standards.

Preparing and setup of necessary tools and equipment for welding jobs. Arranging of parts for welding and staging processes. Review of finished assemblies & parts to ensure accuracy against drawings/prints.

Report fabrication and quality issues and assist in resolutions as required. Tasks: Clamp, hold, tack-weld, grid or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. Remove spatter from workpieces, using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers.

Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits. Recognize, operate, and set up, to manually MIG Weld metal segments, using processes such as gas metal arc. Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.

Fill holes and perform weld up to in the flat position of mild steel parts. Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors. Set up welders (connect and turn regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure so that desired flames are obtained) to produce quality welds/parts.

Clean or degrease parts and equipment, using proper cleaning supplies. Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required. Position and secure completed workpieces using banding machines or hand tools.

Operating other necessary equipment and performing tasks necessary to complete parts to specifications. Perform other duties as requested by the department manager. Level II Additional Expectations/Responsibilities Has 3 year/6,000 hours paid welding experience OR in combination with Welding Technical Diploma or AWS SENSE Certificate Must be able to pass at least 2 PMI Workmanship Test relevant to the position GMAW-Pulse Aluminum GMAW-Short Circuit Mild Steel GMAW-Spray Transfer Mild Steel GTAW-Stainless Steel Practiced and passed at least 2 PMI AWS Shop Certifications Run Production Parts Propose potential quality or productivity enhancements i.e., continual improvements Tasks: Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications

Grinding and beveling material to comply with required dimensions using multiple grinding tools Set up and use ladders, and other material handling equipment, including forklift and scissor lift, as necessary to complete work. Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals. Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torches, straightening presses, and hand tools.

Dismantle metal assemblies or cut scrap metal, using thermal-cutting equipment such as flame-cutting torches or plasma-arc equipment. Check grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometers, calipers, and precision measuring instruments. Operate metal shaping, straightening, and bending machines, such as brakes and shears.

Preheat workpieces prior to welding using torches or heating furnaces. Level III Additional Expectations/Responsibilities Has 7 year/14,000 hours paid welding experience or combination of work experience, education/training 2 year minimum at PMI Must be able to pass all PMI Workmanship Test relevant to the position GMAW-Pulse Aluminum GMAW-Short Circuit Mild Steel GMAW-Spray Transfer Mild Steel GTAW-Stainless Steel Practiced and passed at least 4 PMI AWS Shop Certifications Trains and mentors welding team members at PMI Perform visual inspections Process Improvement activities First Article Pieces Understanding of Standard Operating Procedure to build the first piece Complete SOPs; working closely with engineering to create Tasks: Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers. Develop templates and models for welding projects, using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information.

Guide and direct flames or electrodes on or across workpieces to straighten, bend, melt, or build up metal. Run Robotic Welders Turn on, set-up, and operate. Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or wrapping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.

Determine required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques. Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
