Industrial Piping Designer
AutoCAD Plant 3D | Industrial Equipment & Piping Projects
Position Summary
ProcessBarron is seeking an experienced Industrial Piping Designer to support equipment and piping projects from design through execution. Working closely with our engineering team, you’ll turn engineering requirements into detailed, constructible piping designs in AutoCAD Plant 3D, including P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, and equipment layouts.
Projects may include industrial steam, condensate, process, and utility piping systems in manufacturing and other industrial facilities. Steam turbine or power generation experience is beneficial but not required.
Key Responsibilities
• Interpret P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, vendor drawings, and engineering markups.
• Develop and maintain 3D piping models and layouts using AutoCAD Plant 3D.
• Produce piping isometrics, plans, elevations, sections, details, and other construction drawings.
• Develop and maintain piping line lists, equipment lists, instrument lists, material takeoffs, and associated design documentation.
• Route piping between equipment while considering access, maintenance, constructability, and spatial constraints.
• Coordinate piping components, valves, fittings, instruments, equipment connections, and pipe support locations with engineering.
• Incorporate vendor information, drawing revisions, field measurements, and design changes.
• Coordinate with mechanical, structural, electrical, controls, procurement, and construction personnel.
• Participate in model reviews, clash detection, field walkdowns, and existing-facility tie-in planning.
• Support procurement questions, construction RFIs, and field changes as needed.
Required Qualifications
• Experience producing industrial piping layouts, 3D models, and isometric drawings.
• Working proficiency with AutoCAD Plant 3D and familiarity with AutoCAD drafting.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, general arrangements, piping specifications, and equipment/vendor drawings.
• Working knowledge of piping materials, valves, fittings, flanges, and common support arrangements.
• Ability to develop accurate P&IDs, Line Lists, material takeoffs, and design documentation.
• Ability to work independently on assigned drafting and modeling tasks while coordinating engineering decisions with the responsible engineer.
• Technical degree, drafting certification, or equivalent practical piping design experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with steam, condensate, process, or industrial utility piping systems.
• Experience with high-temperature or high-pressure piping and familiarity with ASME B31.1 or B31.3.
• Industrial retrofit, brownfield, or field-measurement experience.
• Understanding of thermal expansion, pipe supports, and equipment connection requirements.
• Experience supporting EPC projects and construction teams.
• Experience with Autodesk Inventor or other 3D piping design platforms.
