Guide crews delivering electrical construction—installation, alteration, addition, and repair—while ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence from plans and specifications.

Core duties

  • Supervise and work with journeymen and helpers on commercial/industrial projects.
  • Plan tasks, stage materials and tools, and sequence work according to drawings/specs.
  • Execute high‑quality installations and verify compliance to code and standards.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical systems and resolve field issues.
  • Track progress and productivity; make adjustments to maintain momentum.
  • Accurately code and submit time sheets.
  • Support training initiatives and participate in performance evaluations.
  • Demonstrate competencies associated with E‑Rating levels E‑6 through E‑1.

Qualifications

  • Driver’s License and reliable personal transportation (many projects lack public transit access).
  • Active Electrical Journeyman or Master license.
  • High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 years of hands‑on electrical experience.

Environment & schedule

  • Work in all weather conditions—heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Use of construction site sanitary facilities (Porta‑Johns).
  • Carry personal tools daily (typical belt ~30 lbs.).
  • Operate from step ladders up to 14', “A” frame ladders, and extension ladders; independently carry and relocate a 12' step ladder.
  • Respect ladder ratings: Class 1 (250 lbs.) and Class 1A (300 lbs.) inclusive of body weight and tool load.
  • Perform elevated work to 90' using ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, or other safe means.
  • Enter confined spaces: switchgear rooms, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics.
  • PPE required at all times (hard hat, safety glasses) and respirator when required.
  • Expect repetitive arm/hand/finger motions.
  • Typical schedule: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week; overtime and night shifts as required.
  • Conditions include all elements inside and outside.

Tool and equipment mastery

  • Identify wire colors accurately; read prints and schematics with confidence.
  • Hand‑bend conduit using hand benders.
  • Operate saws, threaders, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders, and knockout punches.
  • Trench by hand or with power equipment.
  • Run trenchers, backhoes, and lift trucks safely.
  • Follow Company Safety Policy Handbook, Haz‑Com, and Lockout/Tagout procedures rigorously.
  • Use two‑handed tools (cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jackhammers).
  • Drive manual and automatic transmission company trucks.
  • Interpret maps, manuals, specifications, work directions, blueprints, and written instructions.
  • Operate mechanical personnel lifts (electric or gas).
  • Work on energized circuits and equipment with company management approval per Safety Policy.
  • Direct jobsite personnel to complete milestones and deliverables.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
  • Lift a minimum of 51 pounds.
  • Stand/walk continuously throughout the shift.
  • Climb all ladder types safely.
  • Perform sustained overhead work for full‑day assignments.
  • Access all project levels from parking or street via OSHA‑approved ladders or in‑progress stairs acceptable for use.
  • Normal or corrected vision.
  • Retrieve and secure tools/materials from storage as needed for tasks.
