Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1 years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Support visually impaired students by providing specialized instructional services across multiple sites in the New Orleans area. This contract opportunity begins August 3, 2026 and runs through May 27, 2027. You'll work 35 hours per week, primarily in an itinerant capacity, collaborating with general education staff and supporting students from various age groups in accordance with individual education plans.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and current Louisiana Department of Education certification for teaching the visually impaired.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings.
- Demonstrated expertise in using and teaching assistive technology tailored for visually impaired students.
- Capable of Braille instruction; familiarity with orientation and mobility training is preferred.
- Effective communicator and leader who can facilitate in-service trainings and inspire collaboration among staff.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, able to manage priorities with professionalism.
- Ability to consistently drive to multiple school locations throughout the district; must provide own transportation.
- Must pass required district drug screening and fingerprinting.
Role Expectations:
- Deliver direct instruction and support to visually impaired students across different schools.
- Facilitate and interpret student needs, ensuring access to appropriate resources and services.
- Work closely with general education teachers to prepare accessible materials and modify curriculum as needed.
- Provide ongoing training and consultation to school personnel on the needs of visually impaired students.
- Maintain clear communication with both internal teams and the Louisiana Department of Education.
- Perform physical duties such as sitting, standing, light lifting, and operating office equipment as required.
- Execute other responsibilities as outlined by the Director of IDEA.
