Job Title: Construction Project Manager
Location: La Mesa, CA
Company Type: Small, Boutique Build Development Firm
Compensation: $105,000 – 120,000 (Commensurate with experience in high-end finishes and San Diego zoning)
The Role
We are looking for a versatile Project Manager to serve as my right hand in a growing, high-end construction firm. You will bridge the gap between the vision of our custom home clients and the technical execution of our boutique development projects (including ADUs and multi-unit infill). You will manage the office-side logistics and client relations, allowing our Lead Superintendent to stay focused on field execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Dual-Track Project Management: Simultaneously manage high-touch custom home builds requiring finish quality and smaller-scale development projects focused on speed and efficiency.
- Zoning & Permit Mastery: Navigate the front end project planning and permitting side of our projects, working alongside our architecture partners to manage entitlements, ministerial permits for ADUs, and discretionary reviews for small developments.
- High-End Client Relations: Serve as the primary "concierge" for custom home clients, providing weekly progress reports, managing "white-glove" expectations, and guiding them through complex selection processes.
- Financial Performance: Take full ownership of project budgets. Manage bidding for luxury trades, track real-time costs in Buildertrend (or similar), and handle all change orders with transparency and firmness.
- Superintendent Liaison: Act as the strategic partner to our field lead. You handle the "long-lead" items (permits, material procurement, sub vetting) so they can maintain momentum on-site.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 5 years in residential construction, specifically with San Diego-based high-end custom homes and/or small residential developments.(renovation experience a plus)
- A degree or certification in construction project management. Or architecture. OR verifiable experience as a successful project manager
- Tech Literacy: Proficiency in Procore, Buildertrend, or CoConstruct for document control and financial tracking. Excel and similar spreadsheet Proficiency
- Team Mindset: A "no ego" attitude—willing to solve a client’s minor finish concern one hour and tackle a complex zoning issue the next.
Why Join a Small Team?
- Direct Access: Work directly with the owner to shape the company’s future.
- Project Variety: Trade the monotony of large-scale production for the challenge of unique custom architecture and investment-driven development.
- Professional Growth: As we expand, you will be the foundational leader of our project management department.
