Role Summary
The Senior Azure Cloud Engineer / Architect is responsible for designing, building, and optimizing enterprise-scale Azure and hybrid cloud environments that support complex business operations.
This role serves as a technical leader in cloud transformation initiatives, providing architectural direction, hands-on implementation, and mentorship to engineering teams. The position also acts as a trusted advisor to IT leadership on Azure strategy, governance, security, and modernization efforts, while providing advanced escalation support for complex cloud-related issues.
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- 7 years of overall IT infrastructure experience
- 4 years of hands-on experience managing Microsoft Azure in hybrid cloud environments
- Strong experience designing and executing Azure builds (greenfield and migration)
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing Azure Virtual Machines
- Advanced experience with Microsoft 365, including:
- Exchange Online
- SharePoint Online
- Intune (Mobile Device Management)
- Strong expertise in Identity and Access Management (IAM), including:
- Azure Active Directory / Entra ID
- Conditional Access policies
- In-depth knowledge of:
- Azure networking and security
- Hybrid cloud architecture
- Azure Landing Zones
- Solid experience with Windows Server technologies, including:
- Active Directory
- DNS
- Group Policy (GPO)
- Experience with cloud cost optimization and resource management
- Advanced troubleshooting skills, capable of handling complex Level 3 / Level 4 issues
- Strong communication skills and a service-oriented approach
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SASE platforms and secure network design
- Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) experience using:
- ARM Templates
- Bicep (Terraform is a plus)
- Exposure to containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience working in multi-cloud environments, including AWS
- Advanced Azure Automation experience beyond basic scripting
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable Azure and hybrid cloud environments
- Lead Azure build, migration, and modernization initiatives
- Provide architectural guidance and hands-on implementation for cloud workloads
- Ensure high availability, performance, security, and scalability across cloud platforms
- Manage and support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Intune
- Oversee Mobile Device Management (MDM) using Intune
- Administer Identity and Access Management solutions across cloud environments
- Manage connectivity between cloud environments, on-premises infrastructure, and secure network platforms
- Develop and maintain automation using PowerShell and Azure Automation tools
- Implement Infrastructure-as-Code using ARM templates and/or Bicep
- Optimize cloud performance, resilience, and operational efficiency
- Design and implement cost-effective cloud strategies aligned with operational goals
- Implement and maintain cloud security controls, including firewalls, access controls, encryption, and patch management
- Ensure compliance with cloud security best practices and standards
- Partner with IT Security teams on risk assessments and remediation efforts
- Provide advanced escalation support for complex cloud and infrastructure issues
- Mentor and coach junior cloud engineers
