Position Summary
The Quality Technician is responsible for inspecting machined parts and materials to ensure they meet customer specifications, engineering drawings, and company quality standards. This role supports production by verifying dimensional accuracy, maintaining inspection records, and helping identify and resolve quality issues before they impact customers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections on machined components using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM, optical comparators, etc.)
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) specifications
- Complete and maintain accurate inspection reports, quality records, and certificates of conformance
- Identify nonconforming parts and initiate corrective action or nonconformance reports (NCRs)
- Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot measuring and gauging equipment
- Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and production staff to resolve quality concerns and reduce scrap/rework
- Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., SPC, Six Sigma, Lean)
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001, AS9100, or other applicable quality management systems
- Assist with supplier and incoming material inspections as needed
- Document and track quality metrics (yield, scrap rate, first-pass yield, etc.)
- Participate in internal and customer audits
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe inspection area
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training in quality control or manufacturing preferred
- 1–3 years of experience in a machine shop or precision manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools
- Strong understanding of blueprint reading and GD&T
- Familiarity with ISO 9001/AS9100 quality systems
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Basic computer skills (MS Office, quality software/ERP systems)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
