About the Role:

The Waterjet Operator plays a critical role in the manufacturing process by precisely operating waterjet cutting machinery to shape and fabricate materials according to detailed specifications. This position requires a strong attention to detail to ensure that all cuts meet quality standards and customer requirements, minimizing waste and maximizing efficiency. The operator will collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to interpret technical drawings and optimize cutting paths. Maintaining the equipment in excellent working condition through routine inspections and troubleshooting is essential to prevent downtime. Ultimately, the Waterjet Operator contributes to the production of high-quality components that support the overall success and reputation of the manufacturing facility.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience operating waterjet cutting machinery or similar CNC equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic understanding of reading technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Certification in CNC operation or waterjet technology.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software for programming cutting paths.
  • Knowledge of materials science related to metals and composites.
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to operate a forklift with previous experience.

Responsibilities/Abilities 

  • Set up and operate waterjet cutting machines to cut various materials such as metal, foam, plastics.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and computer-generated reports to determine cutting specifications.
  • Monitor machine operation to detect malfunctions or deviations and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of waterjet equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Collaborate with production supervisors and engineers to optimize cutting processes and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of production output, material usage, and machine maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and company policies during machine operation.
  • Ability to lift heavy materials (up to 75 lbs.), stand and walk for extended periods.

Mechanical aptitude is essential for setting up, calibrating, and maintaining the waterjet equipment to prevent downtime and maintain consistent quality. Communication skills facilitate effective collaboration with engineers and production teams to optimize workflows and resolve issues promptly. Attention to detail is critical in monitoring machine performance and inspecting finished products to uphold quality standards. Additionally, problem-solving skills enable the operator to quickly identify and address operational challenges, contributing to continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
