Job Summary:
The Drone Pilot II is a senior-level UAV operator responsible for executing complex inspection missions and supporting operational leadership in the field. This role performs advanced flight operations in higher-risk environments and ensures inspection data meets engineering and utility standards. The Drone Pilot II may provide training, mentoring, and quality oversight to Drone Pilot I personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Executes advanced UAV inspection missions involving transmission-level assets and complex operating environments.
- Operates UAVs in proximity to energized infrastructure, rugged terrain, and congested airspace when authorized.
- Leads mission planning activities, including route selection, risk assessment, airspace review, and contingency planning.
- Ensures inspection data meets required quality, resolution, and documentation standards.
- Troubleshoots UAV hardware, software, and payload issues in the field.
- Assists with training, mentoring, and technical guidance of Drone Pilot I personnel.
- Supports the Flight Supervisor with daily operational coordination, productivity tracking, and reporting.
- Enforces compliance with FAA regulations, customer requirements, and company safety programs.
- Provides recommendations regarding productivity improvements, safety enhancements, and equipment needs.
- Identifies operational or safety risks and implements corrective actions within scope of authority.
- Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of FAA Part 107 regulations and airspace management.
- Strong understanding of transmission and distribution systems preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to operate UAVs safely in complex or higher-risk environments.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and apply hazard mitigation strategies.
- Strong troubleshooting skills related to UAV platforms, sensors, and field technology.
- Effective leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of safety and data quality.
- Ability to hike uneven terrain and lift and transport UAV equipment and batteries
- Proficiency with inspection-grade UAV platforms and sensor payloads preferred.
- Ability to support extended workdays and accelerated schedules as required
Experience / Education
3–5 years of professional UAV flight experience
Demonstrated experience performing utility or infrastructure inspections
High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
Licenses / Certifications
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (required)
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to maintain insurability under the company’s insurance carrier.
Salary : $50 - $60
