Position Overview
The Director of Development leads all fundraising and advancement efforts to support the mission of the Pro Bono Project Silicon Valley. This role is responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive development strategy, including grant writing and reporting, donor engagement, event planning, and database management. The Director works closely with the Executive Director, board members, and program staff to ensure sustainable revenue growth and strong community partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
1. Grant Writing & Reporting
Research and identify new funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources
Write compelling grant proposals aligned with organizational priorities
Manage grant calendars, deadlines, and submissions
Prepare timely and accurate grant reports, including outcomes and impact metrics
Maintain a funder “relationship database” with funders and program officers.
2. Strategic Development Planning
Create and implement a multi-year fundraising and development plan
Set annual revenue goals across diverse streams (grants, individual giving, events, corporate sponsorships)
Partner with leadership to align fundraising with organizational strategic priorities
Track and analyze fundraising performance and adjust strategies accordingly
3. Event Coordination & Fundraising Campaigns
Plan and execute fundraising events (Lady Justice galas, donor briefings, community events)
Manage event budgets, logistics, sponsorships, and timelines
Oversee event marketing and donor engagement strategies
Lead annual giving campaigns and special fundraising initiatives
4. Donor Database Management
Oversee and maintain donor CRM system (e.g., Constant Contact or similar platforms)
Ensure accurate tracking of donor interactions, gifts, benefits and communications
Generate reports and analytics to support fundraising strategies
Implement best practices for data integrity, segmentation, and stewardship
5. Donor Stewardship & Recognition
Develop and implement donor recognition programs
Cultivate relationships with major donors, sponsors, and community partners
Coordinate personalized communications, acknowledgments, and impact updates
Support board members and leadership in donor cultivation efforts
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred
5–8 years of nonprofit development experience
Proven success in grant writing and fundraising strategy
Experience managing donor databases/CRM systems
Strong project management and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
