Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Lead Sheet Metal Fabrication Technician to oversee the day-to-day fabrication of HVAC ductwork and custom sheet metal components in our fabrication shop. This is a hands-on production role responsible for interpreting shop drawings, organizing fabrication priorities, and ensuring quality workmanship while assisting and guiding other shop personnel. This position is not a supervisory or foreman role but serves as the shop's lead fabricator and technical resource.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate rectangular, spiral, and custom HVAC ductwork based on shop drawings.
- Measure, lay out, cut, bend, assemble, and finish sheet metal components.
- Operate fabrication equipment including shears, brakes, rolls, Pittsburgh machines, lock formers, plasma tables, and other shop tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and mechanical specifications.
- Prioritize daily fabrication tasks to meet project deadlines.
- Verify dimensions and maintain quality control throughout production.
- Coordinate material needs with warehouse and purchasing teams.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior fabricators and shop helpers.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fabrication environment.
- Collaborate with project managers and field installation crews to ensure fabricated materials meet job requirements.
Qualifications
- 1 years of HVAC sheet metal fabrication experience.
- Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical and HVAC shop drawings.
- Proficiency with standard sheet metal fabrication equipment.
- Experience fabricating custom fittings, transitions, offsets, elbows, plenums, and specialty ductwork.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to organize workloads and meet production schedules.
- Forklift experience is a plus.
- OSHA certification is a plus.
