Summary
Registered Nurse – Pre-Admissions Testing (PRN)
The Pre-Admissions Testing (PAT) Registered Nurse provides direct patient care and pre-surgical assessment services to ensure patients are medically prepared for procedures and surgeries. Working under the direction of the unit manager, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and coordinating age-appropriate patient care while supporting safe, high-quality clinical outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing clinical assessments and documenting patient health status, pain levels, and educational needs
- Coordinating pre-operative testing, discharge planning, and patient education
- Utilizing critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and evidence-based nursing practice
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support integrated patient care
- Delegating tasks appropriately and supervising assigned staff when needed
- Maintaining patient safety, following hospital policies and protocols, and supporting quality improvement initiatives
- Participating in peer review, team meetings, and ongoing professional development
- Supporting patient and family understanding of healthcare treatments and care transitions
The role requires strong assessment skills, communication abilities, patient education experience, and knowledge of perioperative workflows, especially in PACU or pre-admission testing environments.
Requirements
Education
- Nursing degree required
Licensure/Certifications
- Current Maryland RN license (or eligibility)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Experience
- PACU or Pre-Admissions Testing (PAT) experience required
