Private Medical
York, NY Part Time
POSTED ON 1/19/2026 CLOSED ON 2/18/2026

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist — House Calls (Concierge Medicine) position at Private Medical?

Reports to:
Site Operations Manager for day to day oversight; Clinical performance manager is the Regional Nurse Manager for clinical standards and development.

Job Overview

You will practice in a personable, non‑hospital environment that prioritizes exceptional, personalized care and hospitality. Success is measured by quality, safety, and member experience—not speed or volume. You will collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and PCAs to deliver the right care, at the right time, from the right team, with reliable clinical coverage during business hours. Hospitality is a core job requirement and must be practiced consistently with members and colleagues. This role is designed for operational flexibility to meet dynamic clinical and member needs while maintaining a consistent foundation across sites.

This position is dedicated to phlebotomy only. Primary responsibility is performing house‑call phlebotomy across the New York City area, followed by in‑office phlebotomy support and preparation for the next day’s visits.

Scope and schedule

  • Primary focus on morning house calls across NYC; afternoons generally on‑site for additional phlebotomy needs, specimen processing, restocking, and next‑day prep.
  • Standard business hours, with flexibility to support member needs, travel time, courier cutoffs, and same‑day add‑ons within scope.
  • Local travel required across NYC boroughs; routing and timing must account for transit, building access, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a hospitality‑forward experience in every interaction: genuine welcome, attentive listening, timely responses, and thoughtful anticipation of needs. Ensure members feel safe, comfortable, and personally recognized throughout the visit.
  • Prepare for and conduct house calls independently or alongside a clinician as needed; provide safe, professional, door‑to‑door service including identity verification, consent/education within scope, and after‑visit instructions.
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection; collect, label, and handle specimens per protocol; perform spin‑down and packaging; manage chain of custody procedures; coordinate courier drop‑offs/pick‑ups and lab cutoff times; document promptly and accurately in the EHR.
  • Provide in‑office phlebotomy support after attending house call appointments: complete in‑office draws, specimen processing, label generation, courier handoff, and end‑of‑day reconciliation.
  • Plan and prep next‑day visits: review schedules, prepare mobile kits and labels, print route sheets as needed, and confirm appointment logistics (address/entry, special instructions, fasting requirements).
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety and infection‑control standards (PPE, sharps handling, exposure protocols); maintain clean, organized, audit‑ready work areas and mobile kits.
  • Manage inventory and equipment: restock supplies, maintain centrifuge and mobile equipment, complete quality checks/logs, and escalate issues promptly.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively with PCAs, nurses, and physicians regarding scheduling, route changes, specimen issues, and clinical or operational concerns impacting patient care; uphold reliable handoffs and close the loop on outstanding items.
  • Participate in continuous improvement: surface bottlenecks, use data and feedback to inform workflow refinements, and collaborate on pragmatic changes that improve reliability and member experience.
  • Collaborate effectively alongside teammates and, where applicable, automated tools/systems—ensuring tasks are performed competently regardless of whether executed by people or automation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant phlebotomy experience; recent experience with home/mobile draws preferred.
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) required; current BLS/CPR preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in member‑facing service with a hospitality mindset; alignment with organizational values, including compassionate care, growth mindset, and continual evolution.
  • Advanced proficiency with Apple devices and EHR workflows; accurate, real‑time documentation.
  • Strong organization and time management; able to independently prioritize routes, manage buffers for transit/couriers, and adapt to same‑day needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage tasks efficiently, reliably and with sound judgment in a highly autonomous environment.
  • Reliable, timely travel across NYC (public transit/ride‑share/personal vehicle as appropriate); ability to carry and manage mobile kits and supplies.
  • Immunization or proof of immunity required for MMR, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.
  • Frequent travel between member homes and the office; variable building access (stairs/elevators), weather, and environmental conditions.
  • Regular lifting/carrying of up to ~25 lbs for mobile kits and supplies; prolonged walking/standing as needed.
  • Strict adherence to HIPAA, OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens, and infection‑control standards.

Competencies (What Good Looks Like)

  • Hospitality as a core value: Warm, professional engagement; personal recognition; anticipatory support; consistent sense of safety and comfort for members and colleagues.
  • Operational flexibility: Adapts scheduling and responsibilities within scope to meet dynamic member and operational needs while safeguarding care quality and team well-being.
  • Data-informed and improvement-oriented: Uses data, feedback, and iteration to enhance reliability and reduce bottlenecks; embraces innovation that removes roadblocks.
  • Team and leadership enablement: Contributes to systems and structures that help teams thrive; collaborates constructively with Operations and clinical leadership per PM role delineation.

Alignment with Private Medical’s Principles of Clinical Staffing

  • Anchors Private Medical’s vision to deliver the right care, at the right time, by the right team, through reliable coverage, hospitality-forward interactions, and safe, competent clinical work.
  • Expands the range of role profiles and flexes responsibly to support demand, preserving a consistent foundation across sites while honoring local needs.
  • Practices hospitality as a defined requirement and participates in continuous improvement informed by data and feedback.
