Job Summary

The Electrical Commissioning Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, testing, and documenting commissioning activities for electrical systems and equipment. This role ensures that electrical installations are completed safely, operate as designed, meet project specifications, and comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, review, and execute electrical commissioning plans, procedures, checklists, and test scripts.
  • Review and/or developed switching procedures, energization plans.
  • Perform inspections, pre-functional checks, functional testing, energization
  • support, and system verification for electrical equipment and systems.
  • Commission medium-voltage and low-voltage systems, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, UPS systems, generators, power distribution equipment, control panels, and related electrical infrastructure.
  • Technical review comments on equipment submittals, schematics, and Sequences of Operation (SOOs)
  • Review project drawings, specifications, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and vendor documentation.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve installation, testing, performance, and operational issues during commissioning.
  • Coordinate with project managers, construction teams, contractors, vendors, operations teams, and client representatives to support safe and timely system startup.
  • Ensure commissioning activities comply with safety requirements, lockout/ tagout, procedures, quality standards, electrical codes, and project specifications.
  • Document commissioning results, deficiencies, punch-list items, corrective actions, test reports, and turnover packages.
  • Support factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, system integration testing, and final handover to operations.
  • General electrical engineering support deliverables related to MV/LV facilities power distribution systems and other activities required to support safe commissioning, energization, and transition to operations.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience commissioning electrical systems in industrial, commercial, data center, utility, manufacturing, or infrastructure environments.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power distribution, grounding, protection systems, controls, and system startup practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, control diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards, including NEC, NETA ATS, NFPA 70E, IEEE, IEC, and OSHA safety practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in field environments while maintaining a strong safety focus.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer license a plus.
  • Experience with protective relay testing, SCADA systems, PLCs, building management systems, or automation controls.
  • Experience supporting commissioning in mission-critical, energy, semiconductor, manufacturing, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with commissioning management software, punch-list tracking tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as required.
