About the Role
A newly created position, the Crisis Support Specialist provides intensive crisis intervention and support to individuals with behavioral health needs across Prince William County. This role focuses on running crisis cycles, developing crisis plans, providing in-person crisis support, and partnering closely with Crisis Support Associates (CSAs) who deliver one-to-one support in the field.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, communicates well with multidisciplinary teams, and is skilled at supporting individuals experiencing behavioral or emotional crises.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage crisis cycles in accordance with Virginia’s model and guidelines.
- Conduct assessments, develop individualized crisis plans, and revise plans as situations change.
- Provide direct crisis intervention, including in-person response when needed.
- Maintain a consistent presence for individuals receiving crisis support, ensuring continuity and follow-through.
- Collaborate daily with Crisis Support Associates (CSAs) to guide interventions and monitor progress.
- Build trust and credibility with care teams, operations staff, and community partners within Prince William County.
- Complete documentation, crisis plan updates, and follow-up meetings with individuals and teams.
- Participate in cross-functional coordination to ensure safe, effective care during and after crises.
- Serve as a subject-matter resource on crisis planning.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred (Behavioral Health, Psychology, Social Work, or related field).
- Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) certification required.
- Experience supporting individuals with behavioral, mental health, or developmental needs.
- Strong crisis intervention, assessment, and clinical judgment skills.
- Ability to work independently, adapt quickly, and follow crisis protocols.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience in crisis response, community-based behavioral health, or high-acuity support environments.
- Familiarity with Virginia’s crisis service structure, including “crisis cycles.”
- Ability to build rapport and credibility with multidisciplinary teams and community partners.
