Summary
The Process Engineer identifies areas of opportunity, then develops, and implements solutions to equipment, systems and processing methods in plastic bottle manufacturing facilities. Areas of expertise are processing bottles through Extrusion Blow Molding (EBM) machines, and improving the performance of the supporting equipment: mixers, grinders, leak-testers, cappers, palletizers, printers, labelers, flamers, conveyors, etc.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on support to manufacturing team by managing and adjusting machine settings, recipe management, startup, troubleshooting and machine optimization
- Drive permanent solutions to improve throughput by reducing scrap and downtime
- Analyze processes and equipment for cost reduction and productivity improvement opportunities
- Research, specify and price new equipment for purchase
- Manage projects to install new machinery and rebuild legacy equipment
- Collect data to validate compliance with regulatory and internal standards
- Develop work cells and CAD layouts of the factory
- Oversee, assess and improve existing processes and workflows
- Generate reports documenting process status and changes
- Plan, collect and interpret data to qualify new tools
- Prepare project status reports for management review
- Provide thorough instructions for successful implementation of process changes
- Support maintenance activities and mentor individuals
- Conducts risk assessments
- Assess compliance with safety and quality standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred, or strong EBM processing and technical skills
- 5 years of experience in plastics manufacturing
- Effective written and oral communication, and computer skills
- Strong analytical, decision-making, problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to delegate, prioritize and organize own work, and the work of others
