The Director of Environmental Services is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry operations within the nursing home to ensure a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors. This leadership role requires strong organizational skills, a commitment to quality standards, and the ability to manage a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance
- Supervise all facility maintenance activities including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general repairs
- Ensure compliance with safety codes, fire regulations, and health standards
- Maintain preventative maintenance schedules and documentation
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized services
- Respond promptly to emergency maintenance issues
Housekeeping
- Oversee daily cleaning routines for resident rooms, common areas, and administrative offices
- Ensure proper sanitation practices are followed in accordance with infection control policies
- Conduct regular inspections to maintain cleanliness and quality standards
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment
- Train and supervise housekeeping staff
Laundry
- Ensure timely and hygienic laundering of resident clothing, linens, and facility textiles
- Monitor laundry equipment functionality and coordinate repairs as needed
- Maintain inventory of laundry supplies
- Implement procedures for sorting, washing, drying, folding, and distribution
- Supervise laundry staff and ensure compliance with facility protocols
Leadership & Administration
- Recruit, train, and evaluate environmental services staff
- Develop and manage departmental budgets
- Maintain records for inspections, maintenance logs, and staff schedules
- Collaborate with nursing and administrative teams to support resident care goals
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and respect
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory experience in environmental services, preferably in healthcare or long-term care
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, infection control, and facility safety standards
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
