Role Description

The Director of Medical Staff Services provides strategic and operational leadership for the Medical Staff Services Department, overseeing all provider credentialing and privileging activities for our 7 hospitals across Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and Alabama. This role ensures compliance with medical staff bylaws, state and federal regulations (including CMS), and accreditation standards (such as The Joint Commission or CIHQ).

The Director supervises a team of credentialing professionals (two direct reports) and partners closely with hospital administrators and leadership to maintain high standards of accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the central Medical Staff Services team responsible for credentialing, recredentialing, and privileging for seven hospitals.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards (CMS, state licensing boards, and accrediting bodies).
  • Interpret and apply medical staff bylaws, rules, and policies consistently across facilities.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain efficient credentialing processes and systems.
  • Optimize workflows and integrate credentialing data within electronic platforms.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between corporate leadership and hospital medical staff offices.
  • Prepare and present reports, audits, and metrics to executive leadership.
  • Mentor and support team members, fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.


Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5–10 years of progressively responsible experience in medical staff services or provider credentialing, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of CMS Conditions of Participation, state regulations, and accrediting body standards (The Joint Commission, CIHQ, etc.).
  • Skills:
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines across multiple facilities.
  • Proficiency with credentialing software and Microsoft Office Suite
