    HOURS/DAY 1.0 FTE - Flexible schedule including daytime, evening, and occasional weekend programming
    RATE OF PAY: $49,792 to $103,062 per Year

    Terms of employment per the Prior Lake - Savage Education Association (PLSEA) collective bargaining agreement.

    SUMMARY:
    The Parent Educator provides high quality, relationship-based parent education that supports families with children birth through kindergarten entrance. This role facilitates parent education classes, partners with early childhood staff during parent-child programming, and engages in intentional outreach to increase equitable access to Early Learning opportunities. The Parent Educator collaborates with the Early Learning team to design responsive programming and may support evening and occasional weekend offerings to meet family needs. This position plays a critical role in strengthening families, promoting healthy child development, and building connections between home, school, and community.

    Parent Education & Instruction
    • Plan and facilitate parent education classes aligned with the Minnesota Parent Education Framework and Early Childhood Indicators of Progress.
    • Lead reflective parent discussions that support parenting skills, child development knowledge, and family wellbeing.
    • Collaborate with early childhood teachers to support parent-child interaction during ECFE classes.
    • Develop lesson plans and family-focused curriculum responsive to group needs.
    • Model supportive parent-child interactions and developmentally appropriate strategies.
    • Support families navigating transitions including preschool, kindergarten, and community services.

    Outreach & Family Engagement
    • Conduct intentional outreach to underserved and underrepresented families.
    • Build partnerships with community organizations, childcare providers, and local agencies.
    • Support recruitment and enrollment efforts for Early Learning programming.
    • Participate in community events, screenings, and family engagement opportunities.
    • Assist in designing programming that reflects community strengths, cultures, and needs.

    Flexible Programming
    • Support programming offered during daytime, evening, and occasional weekend hours
    • Collaborate with team members to expand access for working families
    • Participate in family events, workshops, and special programming outside traditional school hours as needed

    Collaboration & Teaming
    • Work collaboratively with Early Learning staff including ECFE, Preschool, ECSE, and Birth–3 teams
    • Participate in planning meetings, professional learning, and program development
    • Support coordinated family engagement across Early Learning services
    • Communicate effectively with families, colleagues, and community partners

    Family Support & Child Development
    • Provide guidance on child development, behavior, and parenting strategies
    • Connect families to community resources and support services.
    • Support developmental awareness and early intervention referrals when appropriate.
    • Promote inclusive practices and culturally responsive family engagement.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Education and Experience:
    Required:
    • Bachelor's degree in Parent Education, Family Education, Early Childhood Education, or related.

    Preferred:
    • Experience teaching ECFE or parent education classes.
    • Experience conducting community outreach.
    • Multilingual skills.
    • Experience working with culturally and socioeconomically diverse families
    • Experience with evening or flexible programming

    Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
    Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
    • Required:Valid Minnesota Teaching License in Parent and Family Education (or ability to obtain)
    • Preferred: Dual licensure (Parent Education and Early Childhood)

    Required Knowledge:
    • Knowledge of child development birth through age five.
    • Knowledge of family systems and parenting supports.

    • Ability to build relationships with diverse families.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to facilitate reflective adult discussion.

    PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
    The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    Mobility and stamina to work in classroom and community-based environments, including the ability to sit on the floor, stand, and move for extended periods. Strength to lift materials up to 25 pounds. Requires visual and auditory acuity to monitor child safety and support group communication. Must maintain mental alertness to supervise participants, follow procedures, and respond effectively to changing situations.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
    Work is performed in classroom and community-based settings, including both indoor and outdoor programming. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required, along with travel within the district or community.
