Student Employment at Principia College:
Student Employment, located in the School of Government, is available to assist Principia College students, faculty, and staff in having the best student work experience possible. Preparing students with practical, transferrable work experience(s), expectations, good work habits/best practices, and the ability to balance the multiple needs on their time is part of Student Employment’s commitment to that Core Goal.
The purpose of the Student Employment program at Principia is to provide students with the opportunity to develop and practice good work habits, learn new skills and to contribute to the Principia community by providing valuable services as part-time student employees. Every position offers opportunities for growth and meets a practical need for the campus.
There is a mutual expectation that employee and employer will enter into this commitment in a professional and responsible manner.
Student Employment jobs are considered to be entry level, part-time, and temporary.
Practical training and character unfoldment are the primary focuses of the Student Employment program.
The Student Employment program is housed within the Human Resources Department in the School of Government Building, on the terrace level, office #053. Any questions, job concerns, or suggestions about the program may be directed to the Student Employment Coordinator.
Employee Requirements and Eligibility
All currently enrolled Principia College students are eligible to apply for student employment.
All employment is contingent upon verification of work eligibility, according to the Department of Homeland Security guidelines.
Employment Paperwork & Hiring Procedures
All individuals applying to work through Student Employment must go through pre-employment, which includes completing an I9 to verify work eligibility, a federal W-4 form, an IL W-4 form (even if claiming exemption), a basic Student Employment application, and a signed Student Employment agreement.
Hiring Process at a Glance:
- In order to be hired, new students need to fill out the Student Employment Application
- Once completed, students should make an appointment with the Student Employment Coordinator.
- Bring your class schedule, and I-9 documentation to complete your onboarding paperwork (passport, or drivers license & social security card)
- Check your Principia Email for updates on job postings and placements
- Get placed in a job that fits your schedule, and meet with hiring manager to complete your onboarding.
