Reports to: Director of Building and Grounds
Additional Supervision provided by District Administrator
Qualifications: 1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Related work experience preferred, preferably in an educational
setting or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experiences
3. Capability to move and/or lift objects up to 65 lbs and climb ladders.

GUIDING VALUES:

- Provides support to the administration as needed to aid in maintaining the building’s goals and visions.
- Ensures proper use of supplies and equipment within the custodial and maintenance department.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in the opening of the building each school day, checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are locked and working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
- Reports immediately to the Director of Building and Grounds any damage to school property.
- Monitors all mechanical equipment to ensure correct and efficient operation.
- Reports immediately to the Director of Buildings and Grounds any needed maintenance to the equipment and/or building.
- Unloads and/or delivers all necessary freight and related packages within building.
- Moves furniture and equipment within buildings as directed by the Director of Building and Grounds.
- Prepares for various activities and events as directed by the administration.
- Reports any safety and/or grounds concerns directly to the Director of Building and Grounds (i.e. lawn needs, blacktop repairs, playground safety concerns, snow removal needs, etc.).
- Assists in snow removal and salting to maintain safe entry ways.
- Assists in monitoring building energy consumption by turning off equipment, lights, and devices when not in use.
- Repairs and services equipment owned or used by the district, including but not limited to, furniture (i.e. desks, chairs, tables, lockers, etc.).
- Assists the Director of Building and Grounds in regulating heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in the building to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Assists Director of Building and Grounds in maintaining preventive maintenance and building repairs schedules and logs for assigned building. Reports major repairs needed promptly to Director of Building and Grounds
- Performs such other tasks as assigned by the Director of Building and Grounds and the administration.
- Keeps building and grounds, including but not limited to, bathrooms, hallways, classrooms, gyms, offices, windows, floors, and walls, clean and safe at all times in accordance with administrative direction.
- Ensures that all corridors are clean and safe for the duration of the shift.
- Provides custodial support during student lunch times as directed by the administration.
- Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash and waste, including proper recycling as defined by district administration.
- Assists with summer custodial work as directed by the Director of Building and Grounds.
- Maintains exterior appearance of building by picking up trash, pulling weeds, and other general upkeep.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and materials on hand. Notifies the Director of Building and Grounds in advance of needed replacement so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian duties.
- Assists the Director of Building and Grounds annually in determining building custodial and maintenance needs for budgetary purposes.
- Assists in building and maintaining community outreach programs in accordance with building goals and visions, as well as, district goals and visions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employee has frequent contact with students and members of the community. While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to engage in conversation and is required to utilize communication skills, such as speaking and listening. The employee is required to sit, stand, and walk at regular intervals throughout the workday. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. Essential functions require a high level of concentration and attention to detail.
