Responsibilities
- Network Mapping & Documentation: Create and maintain diagrams, inventory, and detailed documentation of all network devices and resources.
- Network Design & Segmentation: Optimize IP addressing, subnetting, and VLAN configurations to ensure secure and efficient traffic flow.
- Switching & Routing: Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco switches and routers across multiple sites; support industrial fiber-optic networks.
- Firewall Management: Administer and analyze firewall policies for Palo Alto firewalls; ensure segmentation and secure connectivity.
- Wireless Networking: Manage and segment wireless networks, ensuring robust, secure connectivity for office and field operations.
- High Availability: Design and implement redundancy and failover solutions to maximize uptime and business continuity.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Proactively monitor and resolve WAN/LAN/WLAN issues; provide on-site and remote diagnostic support.
- Inter-Site Connectivity: Manage WAN fiber connections, VPNs, and site-to-site routing to ensure reliable inter-site communications.
- Network Security & Compliance: Apply security best practices, access controls, and firewall policy reviews.
- Collaboration & Documentation: Work with internal teams and vendors to ensure smooth integration of systems, while maintaining thorough documentation.
- Experience: 10 years in network engineering or architecture, with proven success in enterprise or industrial environments.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of IP addressing, subnetting, VLAN design, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, HSRP/VRRP).
- Cisco Networking: Advanced experience with Cisco switches/routers (Catalyst, Nexus) and Cisco IOS.
- Industrial Networking: Familiarity with hardened industrial switches (Hirschmann or similar) and fiber-optic networking.
- Firewalls & Security: Expertise in Palo Alto firewall administration, VPNs, and network security policies.
- Wireless: Hands-on experience managing enterprise wireless networks with segmentation and multiple SSIDs.
- Troubleshooting: Strong problem-solving skills across WAN, LAN, WLAN; comfortable with on-prem and remote diagnostics.
- Certifications: Cisco certifications (CCNP/CCIE) and Palo Alto (PCNSE) highly preferred.
- Travel: Willingness to travel regularly to sites in the Hudson Valley region.
- Soft Skills: Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Advanced certifications: CCIE, PCNSE, or equivalent.
- Experience with monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, etc.) and network diagramming software (Visio, NetBrain).
- Prior work in transportation, public sector, or industrial environments (e.g., tolling, traffic, SCADA).
- Project experience executing network upgrades, assessments, and remediation plans.
