Prince William County’s Department of Development Services is seeking qualified applicants for the Senior Building Code Compliance Inspector position.
The Department of Development Services, Building Development, promotes a positive partnership and working relationship with staff and internal and external customers to ensure compliance with building regulations. The Building Code Compliance Branch seeks a highly motivated, high-performing individual to join the team. This position will be filled with efficient and effective customer service-minded individuals who can enforce the provisions of the Uniform Statewide Building Code and provide high-quality education and service to our customers while embracing their essential role as “first preventers.” This position offers paid training and County-sponsored educational opportunities!
About This Role:
- Perform code enforcement commercial and residential inspections
- Conduct thorough background research and investigations of received complaints
- Provide guidance and education outreach
- Work with the Commonwealth Attorney and Testify in Court
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of related (law enforcement, code enforcement, inspections, or a similar field) experience.
Preferences:
- 5 years’ experience in code enforcement Low enforcement, inspections, similar construction-OR a related field,
- 2 years’ experience with law enforcement or working with legal documents, testifying in court,
- Familiarity with enforcement of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances,
- Familiarity with receiving and processing complaints and inquiries from the public and internal entities regarding building or construction-related regulations, concerns, and questions,
- Experience conducting field inspections,
- Familiarity with the legal system, case preparation, and court testimony.
Special Requirements:
Valid Driver’s License – successful completion of a DMV Check
Pre-Employment Physical
Must become certified as a technical assistant to the Building Official
- Must obtain residential building inspections certification and commercial building inspection certification within 18 months.
- Must obtain residential combination (electrical, plumbing, mechanical) inspection certification within 36 months.
Starting Salary Range: $31.96 - $45.42/hr. We also offer great benefits including:
