Please note: While this position is based at the Chinn Park Library, selected candidates will be temporarily scheduled to work at alternative county library locations during the upcoming building renovation.
About This Role:
Shelve materials in alphabetical and numerical order according to the Dewey Decimal System
Provide excellent customer service by assisting patrons with locating materials and providing information
Perform administrative tasks including processing materials and generating basic reports
Maintain a neat presentation of the library’s collection sorted according to categories
Maintain the appearance of the branch
Perform page opening/closing duties including: checking in new and high priority materials and shelving them before opening, checking in materials, straightening books and ensuring shelves look neat and orderly, and working with other staff to sweep the building.
Attend training and may assist with the training of new staff
May create displays, assist with programs, and participate in community outreach and special events
Minimum Requirements:
8th grade education.
Must be at least 16 years old.
Preferences:
Experience accurately filing and organizing materials using alphabetical and numerical systems
Experience working in a public library, bookstore, or similar customer-focused environment
Experience working with the Dewey Decimal Classification system and standard library filing practices
Prior inventory experience
Scheduling flexibility
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, and virtual meeting platforms such as WebEx
Special Requirements: The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.
Work Schedule:
This is a part-time, non-exempt 20 hour a week position. Library hours of operation are Monday-Wednesday 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Thursday-Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and weekends are a regular part of schedule rotations. Scheduling flexibility is imperative and may vary depending upon the needs of the library.
Hiring Salary Range:
$20.00/per hour
