Department Description
Under direction of the Director of Building Services and the Building Services Operations Supervisor performs technical control work. Work of the class involves maintaining and operating automated energy monitoring and control system for controlling heating and cooling of schools and other facilities. Ensures efficient operation and integrity of the Energy Management System; provides support to users; dispatches the work of skilled maintenance workers and contractors; and performs related work as required.
Employee monitors operation of system and makes changes and corrections as necessary to maintain desired levels by programming the automated equipment. Employee may also assist in conducting energy audits; surveys of buildings and develops procedures for improving energy management.

Detailed Description
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Provide input to design, modify, code, test and debug the Energy Management System (EMS) software;
- Analyzes requests for service and reported problems with heating, ventilating, exterior lighting and air conditioning systems;
- Monitors the EMS to ensure operations;
- Assist in providing training to Building Services employees and school operating staff;
- Operates the energy management computer(s) to monitor correct operation and data output; observes school electrical loads;
- Activates or deactivates heating, ventilating, air conditioning and lighting systems and equipment in accordance with energy management procedures;
- Tests integrity of communications between the computer and schools; and calls up data as needed;
- Interprets instructions, drawings, and specifications, tests and calibrates equipment andenergy management systems;
- Assists preventive maintenance (PM) crew on performing preventive maintenance on equipment and building systems;
- Diagnoses and repairs/replaces control systems/describes technical problems to supervisor and others for appropriate action;
- Exchanges information with customers and staff;
- Evaluates procedures and considers impact of actions. Proposes changes to prevent problems;
- Changes the schedule for individual school activities; and creates and monitors schedules for seasonal changes; and
- Performs other general office and related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

- Must possess effective training, planning and organizational skills;
- Good knowledge of the Division of Supporting Services; operations and policies;
- Ability to analyze, interpret and report findings;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various departmental personnel and other school officials; and
- Knowledge of any of the following EMS systems: Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens- APOGEE; Prichett Controls Invensys; Honeywell SymmeterE; EASI Tridium, Staefa Controls TALON, ECHELON ILON, and Watt Master Prism.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma required, supplemented by college or technical school course work and seminars in the computer field with at least three (3) years of progressive experience in systems analysis for facilities maintenance, construction projects and data analysis; or any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator's License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
