The Prince George’s County Department of Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T) is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Transit Office Specialist (Administrative Aide 4A) grade A19 position, in the Transit Administration Division.

About the Position
This is a full performance level support staff position providing support to the Office of Transportation within the Department of Public Works and Transportation. The incumbent assists with the daily coordination of transportation service contracts, transit and taxi programs, customer satisfaction, transit grants, as well as administrative and fiscal support. The incumbent duties include communicating between program participants and managerial staff, creating and updating program schedules, and assisting in the planning and leading of program events. Work may be complex and will require the incumbent to perform a variety of advanced office management tasks as well as the coordination of meetings and special activities.

About the Agency
The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County-maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. The transportation infrastructure includes 900 bridges, as well as shoulders, sidewalks, curbs/gutters, stormwater management facilities, driveway aprons and nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area - all of which are maintained by staff of the Department. DPW&T’s workforce keeps the County’s various services moving by performing a myriad of activities which include removing snow and ice from County-maintained roadways, upgrading traffic signals, installing streetlights, clearing fallen trees, unclogging drainage inlets and maintaining stormwater management facilities, as well as performing roadway repairs ranging from potholes and sidewalk trip hazards to bridge repairs and resurfacing projects and more.

Examples of Work



  • Lead the development, review, and finalization of official correspondence, memoranda, and policy documents in full compliance with County administrative standards and procedures.
  • Ensure organizational communications meet the highest standards of clarity, accuracy, and consistency; provide substantive editing and guidance to staff on document preparation and compliance requirements.
  • Oversee performance management of assigned transit programs and services; analyze and present key performance indicators (KPIs), contractor evaluations, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Identify systemic financial and administrative challenges affecting transit operations; design and implement policy-aligned solutions to improve efficiency, service delivery, and fiscal sustainability.
  • Provide strategic support to the Planning & Innovation Division in securing, administering, and reporting on transit grant programs, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and maximizing funding opportunities.
  • Deliver high-level administrative and fiscal oversight, supporting budget planning, resource allocation, and continuous operational improvement.

Qualifications



Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates degree from an accredited College or University in Business Administration or Secretarial Science.
  • Successful completion of probationary period of nine (9) months at the Administrative Aide III level; or two (2) year of advanced diverse and/or technical clerical experience which involved working with the public, office management and operational details, with some lead or supervisory experience.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Please note there is no equivalency for the required supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of required experience.
  • Experience in public transit or transportation systems is preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public sector administration, transportation programs, grants management, performance analysis, or a related field.
  • Experience monitoring program performance, developing reports, and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Experience supporting or administering government-funded grant programs, including compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Experience analyzing financial and administrative processes and developing policy-aligned recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing, editing, and reviewing formal correspondence, reports, and policy documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Pass an administered Administrative Aide exam. Applicants who have previously taken and passed the exam on or after 8/1/2024 will not be required to re-test. Previous passing test scores will be applied.

General Plan Information:

The Prince George’s County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.
A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.
Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). If you are only adding the stepchildren or child(ren) of a same-sex spouse, you will need to submit a marriage certificate. You will also need to submit the birth certificate of the child(ren) and your spouse must be listed as a parent.
The premiums for health benefits are deducted on a pre-tax basis with the exception of Long-Term Disability, Extra Life Insurance and Voluntary Benefits (Short-Term Disability, Whole Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, Cancer Indemnity, Hospital Indemnity Protection, Accident Indemnity Plan, Supplemental Dental and Group Legal Services).

New employees must enroll in the County’s health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date.
The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire.
After enrolling in the County’s benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and/or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
