The Prince George’s County Office of Information Technology is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Senior Systems Engineer, (Info Tech Engineer 4G) grade G27 position, in the Server Administration Division.
About the Position
This is advanced professional and technical engineering work involving researching, planning, implementing, and maintaining computer operating systems including upgrades and monitoring system performance; enterprise back-office and messaging platform cloud; middleware; electronic storage and back-up systems in a variety of environments; leads and coordinates the implementation of new systems or systems enhancements collaborating with applications developers and solution providers; supports projects that include integration of products; provides level 2 IT Service desk support; and performs related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher-level technology engineer and manager, and evaluated in terms of technical adequacy, accuracy, and efficiency as evidenced by compliance and proper system and network functioning; adherence to established timeframes; and compliance with cyber- security requirements.
About the Agency
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides support for all of the agencies, departments, and branches of County government. The?OIT Service Desk?provides information technology support and maintenance services to Prince George’s County personnel. The Office of Information Technology is wholly dedicated to aligning technology efforts to support the strategic goals of the County. OIT will provide leadership, expertise, and resources in the ideation, development, and deployment of innovative technologies and streamlined processes to improve government efficiency, business interaction, and citizen access to government information and services.
Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) responsible for managing complex IT systems and overseeing contracted IT analysts and engineers by planning, prioritizing, coordinating, and assigning work, while ensuring systems are properly maintained, enhanced, and updated within established lifecycle timelines, including prior to SLA expiration and/or end-of-life.
Administers and maintains Windows Server environments including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and certificate services; manages domain trusts, and OU structures.
Manages VMware vSphere/vCenter infrastructure including ESXi host configuration, VM lifecycle management, vSAN, vMotion, DRS, HA clustering, and capacity planning; performs hypervisor patching and upgrades.
Administers Microsoft 365 tenant including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Intune/Endpoint Manager, and Azure AD (Entra ID); manages licensing, and conditional access policies.
Monitors computer operating environments and back-up to ensure sufficient computer resources are available to sustain optimal systems performance.
Monitors and revises enhancements, modifications, and operational needs of system software to ensure they meet user needs and requirements.
Monitors and tests performance of applications, foreseeing potential bottlenecks and identifying possible solutions.
Consistently and successfully provide 2nd level technical support for developers, architects and engineers.
Enforces data security and compliance controls in M365 using Microsoft Purview (Information Protection, Data Loss Prevention, and Compliance Management) to meet organizational and regulatory requirements.
Assures compliance with established data protection policies and standards.
Establishes and maintains 100% backups for all production servers and storage devices using county designated backup tools.
Monitors and troubleshoots any backup failures daily; and tracks changes and identifies changes that result in problems.
Analyzes trends and evaluates attainment of change management objectives, assures changes are made according to established procedures.
Documents Azure migration runbooks, cloud architecture diagrams, and hybrid infrastructure configurations; maintains up-to-date records of Azure resource groups, subscriptions, tagging policies, and cost management.
Maintains the confidentiality, integrity, and security of sensitive County information, and technology systems in accordance with applicable County policies, cybersecurity standards, and regulatory requirements.
Promptly reports potential security incidents, risks, or policy violations and supports efforts to safeguard County technology assets and operational systems.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, mathematics, business or public administration, or a closely related field. At least three (3) years professional experience in an information technology engineering field, in which at least one (1) year must have involved lead/supervisory duties. Must be willing to respond to service calls after normal business hours, when required. Must have a valid driver's license.
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.
Please note there is no equivalency for the required supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert.
3-4 years’ systems administration experience including Active Directory, Entra ID, and VMware.
3-4 years’ experience with Microsoft infrastructure components: DNS, DHCP, Certificates, etc.
3 years’ experience with Hybrid Exchange. Includes full lifecycle management.
3 years of automation experience with PowerShell or Python.

Salary : $110,500 - $149,970
