This position is limited term grant funded (LTGF). Positions designated as limited-term grant-funded are temporary in nature and the employment period is contingent upon the grant's continued funding availability.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a vacant Limited Term Grant Funded (LTGF) Investigator (Investigator 1G), grade G18 position, in the Special Crimes Division.


About the position

This is entry-level professional inspectional and investigative work. The incumbent will be assigned to the Special Crimes Division where they perform the primary duties of documentation, evidence collection, preservation, and processing evidence related to internet crimes against children. The incumbent is responsible for generating accurate, complete, and comprehensive reports required to conciliate/mediate complaints or to prepare cases for judicial action/consideration. 

This Limited Term Grant Funded position under the Prince George’s County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Grant prioritizes better case management and stronger inter-agency partnerships. This strategic focus ensures efficient investigations, seamless partner coordination, and rapid action against offenders. To preserve the department's ability to protect minors online amid these resource constraints, the Investigator position is critical.

The Prince George's County Police Department is the fourth largest law enforcement agency in Maryland, providing a full range of law enforcement services to County residents and business owners. Their mission is to work in partnership with citizens of Prince George's County towards providing a safe environment and enhancing the quality of life. Today, the Prince George's County Police Department serves over 900,000 residents and has an authorized strength of 1800 officers and 300 civilians.
  • Reviews cyber tips received from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC)..
  • Collects, analyzes, and disseminates data associated with ICAC tips and other related crimes occurring within Prince George’s County and adjoining jurisdictions. 
  • Compiles and maintains statistical data as it relates to case assignments and personnel.
  • Reviews images and videos of a sensitive nature.
  • Assists with the download of recovered devices, review images, and data analysis.
  • Identifies potential suspects and provide intelligence related to conducting search warrants.
  • Conducts background checks on individuals and addresses.
  • Deconflicts information and investigations through local ICAC, State Police, and Federal agencies.
  • Submits preservation letters and administrative subpoenas.
  • Reviews subpoena returns to verify information.
  • Associates and link new cyber tips with existing cases.
  • Assists in follow-up investigations.
  • Investigates background information on individuals connected to ICAC cases and other related crimes.
  • Identifies an address linked to suspected persons involved in child pornography, child sexual abuse, and other related offenses. 
  • Maintains all files within the unit, ensuring that historical case files are properly archived and preserved, with regular updates to both digital and paper records to keep them accurate, complete, and accessible. 
  • Performs daily database maintenance to ensure all information is accurately recorded and kept current.
  • Serves as a liaison to other police departments, ICAC units within Maryland, other state and local agencies, and federal offices such as the U.S. Attorney’s Office, as well as to the public for inquiries.
  • Gathers statistical information for quarterly and yearly grant reports.
  • Assists with error detection, data re-entry, and/or information verification.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:

  • Bachelor's Degree in programs involving investigative and social relations skills such as criminology, law enforcement, business, or public administration, one of the social sciences or related fields.

Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.  

Preferred Qualifications:

Highly eligible candidates will meet the criteria below to be further considered by the hiring agency:

  • Extensive experience in law enforcement investigations, with a focus on internet crimes against children.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Time management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Familiar with automated sources such as ICAC Data System (IDS), the Computer Automated Dispatch (CAD), Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS), National Crime Information Computer (NCIC), Maryland Integrated Law Enforcement Systems (MILES), Law Enforcement Information Exchange (LINX), Records Management System, Premier One Records (RMS), Judicial Information Systems (JIS or MATS) and other Criminal Justice software.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Suite, database programs, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software, graphic software, and other analytical computer applications and internet.

Conditions of Employment:  Upon selection, the candidate must:

  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Be willing to work assigned shift work (days/evenings/weekends/holidays). 
  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.  
  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties, if applicable. 
  • Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings, where applicable. 
  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
