The Prince George’s County Health Department is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Chief of Public Health Policy and Innovation, (Administrative Specialist I) grade G29 position, in the Office of The Health Officer.
About the Position
This is a management level, professional and administrative position in the Office of the Health Officer. The incumbent provides key management level, administrative and technical support to the Health Officer and Deputy Health Officers. The nature and variety of work will include sensitive, controversial and privileged assignments. Work assignments are performed with extensive independent judgment and initiative within the scope set by the Office of the Health Officer. Will require direct and independent contact with all levels of management throughout the County and the public. The incumbent treats all personnel and personal related matters as strictly confidential. In addition, the incumbent serves as a liaison with other agencies. The Prince George's County Health Department's (PGCHD) vision is that all Prince Georgians are their healthiest at every age and every stage. Their mission is to lead, engage, and empower our community to work collaboratively towards disease prevention, health equity, and total well-being. The PGCHD works to protect and support the public’s health through numerous services that range from restaurant inspections and disease tracking to care coordination and health promotion. The department is composed of four divisions: Behavioral Health Services, Environmental Health and Disease Control, Family Health Services, and Health and Wellness, supported by the Office of Administration, Office of Human Resources and the Office of the Health Officer. The mandate of the department has been, and will remain, broad. This plan emphasizes improving core functions and operations, including protecting the public from health threats, implementing strategies to support healthy living, and maintaining a focus on vulnerable populations, while developing efficient internal processes to support these activities.
- Reviews and analyzes legislation and advises the Health Officer regarding impact upon departmental programs and initiatives.
- Serves as the legislative representative for the Health Department.
- Serves as lead coordinator for legislatively mandated workgroups and taskforces requiring Health Department participation and/or oversight.
- Works with programs to draft and submit proposed legislation.
- Designs and implements special programs and projects assigned by the Health Officer, Deputy Health Officers, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Health and Human Services and the directors of Health and Human Services agencies as assigned.
- Conducts research related to agency activities; Organizes, analyzes and interprets results.
- Drafts agency policies and makes recommendations to the Health Officer to improve organizational efficiency and capacity.
- Supervises the operations and/or coordinates the activities of joint Health and Human Services projects.
- Independently acts as a liaison and representative of the agency with department/agency heads, other county agencies, regional agencies, employees and the public on behalf of the Health Officer.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree from an accredited College or University in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field. Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in governmental activities providing key management level, administrative and technical support.

Salary : $75,776 - $157,928
